Job Standards
The Springfield Police Department, Administrative Services Division is seeking an individual under administrative direction, to provide general supervision of the Property Section under the Evidence Coordinator. Maintain in safe keeping all evidence and property recovered by department members in accordance with established procedures and statutory provisions. Perform a variety of routine administrative tasks relative to the receipt, transfer, return, release and laboratory testing and disposal of evidence and property, including the daily input of property and evidence received into the computer system. Review completed Property Inventory Reports; prepare and forward Deficiency Notices for evidence packaging and return incomplete Property Inventory Report forms. Coordinate evidence destructions with an emphasis on conducting research. Transport or mail all evidence that is to be processed by state or federal laboratories and ensures that the property is returned to the department upon completion of the tests; maintain running log in the Receipt-Register of all evidence/property released, transferred and returned. Position may involve occasional overtime, after regular duty hours and on weekends. Potential exposure to hazardous waste, chemicals, narcotics and dangerous drugs and blood borne pathogens. Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license with a “D” classification. Must pass the department’s required background investigation. Must sign the department’s Confidentiality Statement. This position requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college. Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
