Incumbents in this position are responsible for developing and maintaining detailed design and construction drawings, plans, exhibits, graphs, and charts including architectural and engineering drawings, and official assessment and taxation maps on a variety of projects. Incumbents will be utilizing both manual drawing methods and computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, ESRI ARC GIS, or MicroStation, to produce technical, map related drawings, elevations, and details. Further duties may include analyzing complicated legal descriptions of real property to mathematically calculate and determine property boundary lines, drawing new or changed bound and office plats, maintaining ordinances, highway takings, dedicated streets, alleys, and new subdivisions and condominium plats, conducting field surveys, and preparing price estimates for printing of plans and specifications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assist Airport Engineering/Planning team in all scheduled builds and future projects.
- Prepares detailed design and construction drawings, plans, exhibits, graphs, and charts including architectural, mechanical, civil, electrical and structural engineering drawings.
- Produces manual and computer aided design (CAD) drawings.
- Conducts field surveys.
- Logs and files plans.
- Drafts and updates computer base maps.
- Drafts computer facilities plats.
- Prepares dedication and vacation plats.
- May prepare price estimates for printing of plans and specifications.
- Plots maps and drawings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Data Utilization: Requires the ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships.
- Human Interaction: Requires the ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify to others such as co-workers, consultants, managers, and supervisors within well-established policies, procedures and standards. Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from others.
- Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as a computer and CAD, and/or related materials used in performing essential functions.
- Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference, descriptive and advisory data and information such as mechanical, structural, and plumbing drawings; design manuals; computer reference guides, procedures, guidelines and non-routine correspondence.
- Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; calculate decimals and percentages and perform basic to advanced geometry, algebra, and trigonometry.
- Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objective.
- Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
- Environmental Factors: Work is normally performed in an office environment under generally safe and comfortable conditions with little exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Other Requirements:
- A ten year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
An Associate’s degree in Drafting, Architectural Drawing, or Civil Engineering Technology; OR two years of full-time experience as a Drafter, to include at least one year of experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Veterans Preference Points

City Residence Preference Points
City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
