General Statement of Job
Performs moderately complex activities supporting the planning and coordination of various recreation and leisure programs, activities, special events, and projects for city residents and personnel. Work involves assisting with the daily functions of recreation, athletic, and special event programming and supervision of participants and volunteers.
Work is performed under limited supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative. Position relies on experience and exercises some independent judgment to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures. Reports to Parks and Recreation Site Supervisor or designee.

Plans, schedules, coordinates, supervises, and conducts recreational, health and wellness, and leisure activities for diverse and specific audiences based on community needs.
Develops promotional plans and schedules, program budgets, vendor and instructor requirements and agreements, registration and purchasing and procedures for programs, events, and activities.
Ensures the adherence to all safety protocols by participants and providers; monitors activities for safety and health and wellbeing of all participants.
Evaluates customer satisfaction, fiscal viability, and the performance of promotional activities for benchmarking against program and department objectives.
Recruits, interviews, and selects part-time, temporary, and volunteer staff, and activity providers, instructors, and contractors; conducts orientation and training sessions; verifies instructor schedules and authorizes payments.
Develops external funding sources and sponsorship methods to support recreation programs and services and special events.
Monitors conditions of assigned equipment; prepares and processes work orders pertaining to necessary maintenance, repairs, and hazards with equipment or facilities; maintains inventory of assigned recreation and special event equipment and supplies; obtains quotes and enters requisitions for purchases as needed.
Opens and closes facilities per schedule, following all established policies and procedures; follows protocol for the security alarm; sets up and breaks down facilities and classroom as required for the daily schedule.
Serves as lead worker at assigned facility in the absence of a Site Supervisor.
Receives guests and responds to phone, in person, and email inquiries with complete, timely, and accurate information; receives payments for recreation programs as necessary.
Schedules facility rentals and assists with the preparation and monitoring of rental and lease agreements; represents the department as assigned for facility rental by outside groups; monitors contracts for adherence to specifications and requirements; prepares and/or reviews facility usage and activity reports.
Receives, reviews, prepares, submits, and maintains a variety of records, forms, documents, and files related to recreational programs and events.
Adheres to all city and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.
Maintains quality communication and interaction with all city personnel, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive city image.

Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city’s obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Pay and Bargaining Status
This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the blue collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement. This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in leisure services, recreation management, education, or related field required; supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a camp, school, recreational program, or similar environment; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Required Certifications and Licenses
May be required to possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities.
Must possess or obtain within four (4) months of hire, First Aid / CPR Certification, and within one (1) year of hire, Crowd Manager Certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, leisure services, education, or related field required; supplemented by two (2) years of experience planning and supervising recreational, aquatic, athletic, or park programming and facilities and staff; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Required Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver license and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities.
