The City of Tumwater is seeking one full-time Electrician to join our Operations Division of Water Resources & Sustainability. The selected candidate will be assigned to maintain and repair electrical, control and SCADA systems related to the operations of the City's drinking water treatment and production facilities and sanitary sewer pump stations.
Performs skilled electrical repair or maintenance work on equipment for the City of Tumwater. Performs lower skilled electrical repair and maintenance tasks and non-electrical maintenance tasks as needed.
This job class is primarily responsible for skilled tasks within the electrical maintenance area. An Electrician is expected to perform a wide range of tasks including maintenance, repair and installation of related facilities and systems without technical oversight. When needed, an Electrician also performs a full range of lower skilled tasks and assists with assigned administrative duties.
Supervision: On-site guidance, supervision, and/or training of other employees assigned to an Electrician is a responsibility of this class.
Assignments are received in the form of brief descriptions of electrical problems. Overall priorities and practices are established in conjunction with the Superintendent of Public Works. Electrical work is performed with technical independence. May participate as a working member of a crew on more significant projects. Work performance is reviewed by the Public Works Superintendent.
- Performs general electrical installation and repair work on facilities, traffic signals, street construction projects, and municipal well and liftstation pumps and motors including telemetry equipment.
- Diagnoses the extent of electrical problems and replaces or repairs equipment based upon the cost and quality of equipment operation considerations.
- Inspects street construction electrical work and makes construction recommendations.
- Anticipates and troubleshoots problems where needed, assures quick and appropriate response to citizen inquiries, requests for service, and/or complaints. Investigates and resolves complex or significant problems relating to trouble calls and complaints.
- Regularly takes initiative in recommending changes in work methods, policies, and procedures to improve levels of service delivery and improve overall operating efficiencies.
- Assures a safe working environment by following appropriate safety regulations, and workplace operating policies and procedures and training employees as necessary.
- Estimates materials and timelines for installation, repairs and maintenance activities.
- Maintains records of all service performed on equipment. Maintains inventory records of related parts. Specifies, orders and picks up needed materials/supplies.
- Schedules preventative maintenance; makes recommendation to Superintendent for improvements.
- Performs related and non-electrical maintenance duties as assigned.
Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of electrical principles related to an industrial or facilities environment including pumps, motors, 3 phase and single phase control, and telemetry equipment. Extensive knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, equipment and technology in the electrical trade. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade.
Abilities: Ability to locate, diagnose, and repair electrical malfunctions in a variety of pumps, motors, control, and equipment; to comprehend technical instructions and repair manuals; to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to read, understand and work from electrical plans and sketches; to use and care for the tools, equipment, and materials of the electrical trade; and to maintain inventory records and order cost-effective parts and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications: Three years of related work experience in electrical repair and maintenance in an industrial manufacturing or municipal environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in electrical controls.
Special Requirements: Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Washington State Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire and valid Levels I and II International Municipal Signal Association Traffic Signal Certifications within three (3) years of hire.
