What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Maintenance Technician/Electronics position at City of University Park?
The Equipment Services Lube and Tire Technician performs preventative maintenance on all of The City of University Park's equipment and is the primary tire repair person.
- Services and learns repairs on gasoline and diesel-powered engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems on construction equipment, refuse equipment, police and fire apparatus, ambulances, electrical generators, and lawn maintenance equipment. Outfits new vehicles with lighting, toolboxes, sirens, generators, radios, and other requested items.
- Provides tire service by dismounting, mounting and balancing tires. Tire repairs will be executed in the shop and the field. Grade tires for disposal or auctioning cores for recapping. Applies patches according to standard practices and tire manufacturers specifications.
- Performs preventative maintenance on all city equipment by changing fluids, repairing lighting, replacing mud flaps, adjusting components, and writing up mechanical issues discovered during the process.
- Documents completed work by data entry into a fleet software data terminal in the shop area. Utilizes P.M. scheduling worksheets and coordinates P.M. with departments.
- Provides support to overall fleet management operation by providing other duties as assigned on an occasional basis.
- Five years of current experience servicing and maintaining mechanical systems and or tires, or a combination of three years of experience plus automotive school.
- Must know about tire repairs and maintenance on class 8 vehicles.
- Ability to learn the use of scan tools to diagnose problems.
- Ability to operate computers and enter data on computers.
- Class A CDL or ability to obtain within the first six (6) months of employment. To allow driving equipment and transporting equipment to the shop and dealers for warranty repairs.
- Current Texas State Inspectors License or ability to obtain within the first six (6) months of employment.
- Mac Refrigerant Certification to allow servicing of mobile A/C Systems
- This position is expected to advance to the service technician level in future years and therefore should have the mechanical ability to advance. During the probationary period, the individual will be assessed to determine if advancement is within the abilities of this individual.
- When a public safety emergency is called for by the City Manager this position is required to report to work for the support of all departments operating under these conditions. It is your responsibility to be at work under these circumstances with no exceptions.
