Brief Description
The purpose of this position is to operate a transit system bus on an assigned route. This is accomplished by following routes, adhering to timetables, embarking and debarking passengers, collecting fares, generating transfers, maintaining passenger counts, coordinating activities with dispatchers and other drivers, and completing required records. Other duties include maintaining order on the bus, providing information to the public, ensuring physically impaired passengers are secured, reporting malfunctions or maintenance issues, and reporting related traffic conditions.
Licensing Requirements
Individuals who do not currently have a CDL agree to obtain one no later than 90 days from date of hire or transfer to position as a condition of employment

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice.
2 L Operates a transit bus by driving a prescribed route, learning all routes, interacting with passengers, maintaining order and safety, collecting fares, issuing transfers, and adhering to local, state and federal rules, and published schedules.
3 S Communicates with passengers and staff by maintaining effective working relationships, providing passengers with clear and concise information on stop locations, schedules, transfers or information on other locations, coordinating transfer arrivals, departments and other information with dispatch, and reporting personal items or property left on the bus.
4 L Completes routine housekeeping tasks by checking the bus for lost items, removing trash, cleaning and inspecting the bus after each shift, and refueling the bus after each shift.
5 S Maintains records and logs by recording mileage, recording beginning and ending duty times, total hours on duty, fare box readings, fares and categories, and providing a written description of discrepancies, malfunctions, accidents or other items encountered while operating the bus.
6 L Completes charter trips by driving the bus or trolley as directed and adhering to the terms of the charter.
