Job Summary:
The Junior Transmission Technician is responsible for assisting in the preparation, assembly, and organization of transmissions and related components. You will work closely with senior technicians to ensure quality and efficiency in handling transmission modifications, teardowns, and builds. This role requires an understanding of transmission systems, precision in mechanical work, and the ability to meet customer requirements with high-quality craftsmanship. The Junior Transmission Technician will have strong technical skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for automotive performance.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Retrieve correct transmissions from the warehouse based on sales orders.
- Create and apply necessary labels to transmissions for tracking and identification.
- Change shifters according to sales order specifications.
- Remove tail-shaft assemblies for external modifications and reassemble modified tail-shafts based on provided diagrams and reinstalling onto transmission.
- Prepare shifters for modification and complete the reassembly of finished products.
- Maintain organization in the warehouse, including small parts bins and inventory areas.
- Assist in loading customer pickup orders, ensuring accuracy and proper handling.
- Check in new transmissions and transmission parts for modification, documenting, and organizing them appropriately.
- Work closely with sales representatives to understand and implement specific customization requests.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including parts used, labor hours, and detailed notes on the customization process.
- Ensure that all transmissions meet or exceed company quality standards before they are delivered to the customer.
- Maintain and care for tools, equipment, and workspaces to ensure a safe and organized work environment.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment.
- All other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications:
- Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, not required.
- Experience: 1-3 years of related experience working in automotive.
- Specific Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, assembly diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and standard operating procedures. Basic understanding of automotive transmission systems. Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with basic hand tools. High level of accuracy and attention to detail with ability to spot defects or operational problems. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve transmission issues efficiently. Ability to lift heavy transmission components up to 75-100 pounds and stand for extended periods; ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, Etc.: Sit-down and stand-up forklift, reach truck, and other warehouse equipment and software preferred. Proficiency with automotive tools and equipment.
