JOB SUMMARY
The CGA Services (CGAS) Operator / Captain level is the top-level non-exempt position for CGAS. The incumbent must hold at least a 100-ton Captain’s license or higher and has acquired the knowledge and skills to effectively perform all tasks assigned listed under “responsibilities.” This position possesses significant experience with oil spill response equipment, operations in the marine environment under a variety of weather and visibility conditions, advanced training and significant experience in oil spill response operations, drills, and exercises. Operators should have the ability to supervise operations of significant scope and / or complexity. Operators also demonstrate excellent administrative and management skills, the ability to complete all PM maintenance procedures, and the ability to assume increased responsibility in the management of day-to-day activities as well as during spill response operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Minimum of 5 – 8 years related experience, with at least 3 years demonstrating supervisory skills with peers and contractors.
- Experience responding to emergencies, seamanship (deck seamanship and boat handling), warehouse management (purchasing, shipping and receiving, inventory control), and general computer skills.
- Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC) 100-ton Captain’s license required.
- Valid TWIC card.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SHIFT AND SITE INFORMATION
The standard work schedule for a Captain / Master Responder is Monday-Friday, 0700-1530. As an emergency responder this position will be required to be on-call and readily available for deployment 24 / 7 as needed.

The Captain / Master Responder will be working an office environment, shipyard, onboard vessels, dockside and offshore. Additionally, the Captain / Master Responder will be subjected to extreme weather and sea conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
