Position Overview:
The Cleveland Browns are seeking a highly motivated Sports Medicine Fellow for a one-year position designed for licensed healthcare providers (Doctor of Athletic Training (DAT), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), or Doctor of Chiropractic (DC)) who are recent graduates, or participating in post-doctoral education or research. The goal of this program is to provide opportunity to sports medicine clinicians who are academically motivated, while contributing to the culture of research and innovation at the Cleveland Browns organization.
This fellowship provides a unique opportunity to gain clinical experience and contribute to innovative problem solving within a professional football setting. The Fellow will work closely with the medical, sports science, and strength & conditioning staff to assist in player health monitoring, injury prevention, rehabilitation protocols, and data-driven performance modeling.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical & Performance Integration:
- Assist with treatment, rehabilitation sessions, and return-to-play protocols under the guidance of the athletic training and medical staff.
- Provide pre-practice taping, bracing, and strengthening activities to support player readiness.
- Participate in player assessments, biomechanical screenings, and neuromuscular evaluations.
- Work with strength & conditioning staff to apply data-driven insights to training loads and recovery strategies.
- Supervise athlete transportation to off-site clinical appointments when necessary.
Research & Data Science:
- Assist with applied research projects focusing on injury prevention, rehabilitation outcomes, biomechanics, and performance optimization.
- Collect and analyze player health and performance data from Zebra player tracking, force plates, GPS monitoring, dynamometry, and other sports science technologies.
Technology & Innovation:
- Assist in integrating and evaluating new technologies (e.g., wearables, motion capture, neuromuscular assessment tools) to enhance player monitoring.
Daily Athletic Training & Operational Support:
- Assist with morning training room setup, ensuring all medical supplies, hydration materials, and emergency equipment are ready.
- Maintain daily treatment logs, injury reports, and inventory tracking.
- Assist with practice setup and breakdown, including rehabilitation equipment, hydration stations, and sideline medical support.
- Support team travel logistics, including packing medical trunks, hydration supplies, and emergency medical kits.
- Provide hotel coverage and player bed checks when required for away games.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (DAT, DPT, or DC) AND current Ph.D. student or recent graduate in Sports Medicine, Biomechanics, Exercise Science, Rehabilitation Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- Licensed professional in a relevant discipline (ATC, DPT, DC). Must be eligible for Ohio State Licensure
- Familiarity with sports science technology, such as force plates, GPS tracking, dynamometry, and biomechanical assessment tools.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and team travel.
