Description

The Director, Resilience & Outreach (DRO) position reports to the Deputy Director. The DRO helps promote the long-term goals of the organization by managing the resilience and outreach portfolio at Climate Resolve and providing direction for growth and continuous improvement. Climate resilience and outreach programs consist of place-based initiatives that require liaising with multiple private and public partners, leading stakeholder engagement processes, and other programmatic activities. This position supervises 2-3 staff members who coordinate and contribute to the portfolio of work.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Guide the pursuit, initiation, and execution of several key programs and partnerships, ensuring relations with partners are smooth and upholding the organization’s standard of excellence and reputation in all activities
  • Think strategically about opportunities for programmatic growth, taking into consideration organizational priorities and team members’ capacity, skills, and interests
  • Provide support, mentorship, and direction to staff associated with resilience and outreach program activities – tracking and helping keep workloads at optimal levels in their day-to-day as well as guiding them to achieve their professional development goals
  • Execute and provide oversight of projects by organizing documents, budgets, and templates to carry out deliverables, including coordinating administrative tasks as needed, ensuring that direct reports are equipped to deliver the standard of excellence in program delivery set by the DRO themselves
  • Seek funding opportunities and collaborate with the Grants & Programs Manager to review, evaluate, and complete outreach-related grant proposals
  • Maintain regular check-ins and conduct performance evaluations of support staff per initial review-period, 6-month and annual basis
  • Report to the Deputy Director on a weekly basis and debrief activities. Participate in 6-month and annual performance evaluation with the Deputy Director
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of organization-wide justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts, which could include participating in the activities of any of the following internal working groups : Culture of Care, Culture of Learning, Decision Making and Accountability
  • Participate in organizational analysis and team building
  • Following a good performance review after 3 months, the DRO can be invited to be part of the Leadership team of the organization

Programmatic

  • Curate, cultivate, and offer feedback on resilience and outreach program strategy and work activities, including
  • Advising on partnerships with community-based organizations and local governments to build relevant solutions and take action on climate change mitigation and adaptation

  • Advising on equitable outreach to communicate climate change mitigation and adaptation that empowers action in local communities
  • Lead the implementation of community outreach programs promoting climate solutions such as cooling measures, energy efficiency, water conservation, public transit, and electric vehicles, among others
  • Cultivate healthy and beneficial relationships with other organizations, companies and individuals that share Climate Resolve’s values and goals
  • Produce and supervise colleagues’ production of reporting materials to grant-making organizations
  • Attend grantee workshops
  • Communications

  • In collaboration with the Development & Communications team, advise on generating media and communications content related to outreach initiatives for public dissemination, including original content for Climate Resolve’s newsletter, website, blogs, and social media
  • Provide insights to the Communications team about messaging that resonates with the communities we serve
  • Engage with media reporters as opportunities arise
  • Where possible, contribute to the translation of ad hoc materials from English to Spanish
  • Qualifications

    The Director, Resilience & Outreach will be thoroughly committed to Climate Resolve’s mission. All candidates should have proven experience :

    Required

  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience conducting online and in-person outreach efforts
  • Commitment to, and embodiment of equity and inclusion principles
  • At least four years’ experience in program management, preferably in the nonprofit sector
  • A proven leader with the ability to manage up and manage down, with humility and consideration for others
  • Experience executing and reporting on grant-based deliverables
  • Understanding of basic accounting, budgeting, invoicing, and human resources functions
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments, working well under pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of project management tools such as Asana, Harvest and related products
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms
  • Ability to work effectively in a supportive and collaborative fashion with diverse groups
  • Important to be self-directed, flexible, and able to work under tight deadlines
  • Congenial personality – gets along with others

  • Knowledge of climate, transportation, and / or climate change policy and solutions

    Benefits

    This is a full-time position (40 hrs / wk) and would be eligible to participate in the reduced workweek policy (36 hrs / wk). The annual salary range is $84,000 – $87,000, depending on experience, with above-average benefits that include a matching 401K contribution, medical benefits, cellphone and internet stipends, a professional development annual fund, and commuter benefits.

    This is a hybrid position : generally, 2-3 times a week, work must be performed from the office or in different locations within our communities; the rest can be done from home. Transportation costs are covered only for work in the communities.
