Clinton Foundation is Hiring a Director of Development Near Little Rock, AR

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Foundation’s Chief Development Officer and accountable to the Executive Director (ED) of the Clinton Foundation and serving as a key member of the Clinton Foundation Development leadership team, the Director of Development provides strategic leadership and tactical management necessary to effectively execute fundraising plans to grow philanthropic support for the Clinton Presidential Center (CPC) operations and programs. The Director will manage a significant portfolio of individual and institutional donors/prospects at the mid-level ($2,500-$25,000) and major gifts level ($25,000 ). The Director will cultivate and solicit major gifts and planned gifts in support of the general operations and programs of the CPC and the Clinton Foundation, including Project 42. Helps to create and sustain a robust pipeline of prospects for same. The Director will also provide leadership and oversight for the CPC membership program and grassroots campaigns in close collaboration with others. This position plays a significant role in the financial well-being of the CPC and the impact of it programs, exhibits, and community engagement.

The Development team works to secure the philanthropic resources necessary to advance the Foundation’s mission through its programs and operations. The team works closely with volunteers and colleagues from across the organization to present the Foundation’s case for support through gifts, grants, and sponsorships. Team members collaborate to maximize engagement and giving from individual donors and institutional funders alike.

Core Responsibilities

In this role you will:

Serves as the lead fundraiser for the CPC by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors and institutional funders/sponsors donors for general operating support programs, with an emphasis on current major gifts of $25,000 - $250,000 and the identification of planned gift intentions. Meets or exceeds annual revenue goals.

Leadership in Individual Giving

  • Manages a portfolio of both mid-level and major gift donors and prospects, with an emphasis on both annual fundraising goals and longer-range gift strategies that lead to major and/or planned gift commitments in support of the operations and programs of the Foundation, in general, and the CPC and Project 42, in particular. Prepares customized gift proposals, presentations, and gift agreements.
  • Leads by example, coaches, and inspires others to meet and exceed annual fundraising goals through effective use and monitoring of key performance metrics and interim goals.
  • Provides oversight for the Manager, Development Services, in developing and executing annual plans to recruit, renew, and upgrade CPC members, including the coordination, management, and evaluation of all membership acquisition and renewal activities.

Leadership in Institutional Giving

  • Manages a portfolio of institutional funders (i.e., corporations, foundations, and governmental granting agencies) with the goal of increasing philanthropic grants and sponsorship revenues in support of CPC programs and exhibits, in particular.
  • Authors, co-authors, and/or edits narrative content, budgets, and supporting documentation for funding proposals, with great attention to detail, and working closely with relevant staff to ensure accuracy of information.

Prospect Management

Participates in and actively contributes to prospect management and coordination efforts across the Development team, including continuous effort to identify and qualify new individual and institutional prospects for Director’s personal portfolio, as well as portfolios of others. Conducts ad hoc prospect research as needed.

Development Services and Administration

  • Works closely with Marketing/Communications teams in Little Rock and New York, particularly in the development of persuasive donor collateral, sponsor recognition, direct response appeals, and CPC membership marketing.
  • Works closely with CDO to develop annual goals and budget for CPC fundraising program and monitors revenues and expenses relative to budget targets, Provides regular and timely reporting of same to CDO, ED, and Foundation leadership.
  • Documents prospect plans, donor interactions, and gifts/pledges in CRM for assigned portfolio in a timely manner, including updates to donor records.
  • Provides necessary oversight so that all gifts/grants are receipted and appropriately acknowledged in an accurate and timely manner consistent with donor intent/gift purpose and that CPC-related grant reports are prepared and submitted to funders in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the preparation of briefing materials, necessary reports/data, and/or other presentation materials for ED, other Foundation executives, and principals for meetings with current/prospective funders.
  • Facilitates training and professional development of the direct report(s), including individual development plans, performance reviews, and coaching

Development Events

  • Oversees the execution of donor cultivation and stewardship events at the CPC and activities that serve to advance donor engagement in the Foundation and/or the CPC.
  • Leads efforts to make all donor-related events at the CPC are diverse and inclusive, including liaising with Program teams, Marketing, and Foundation leadership regarding content, speakers, entertainment, and guests.

Other

  • Supports the ED, CDO, and other Development team members with projects that contribute to the Foundation’s and CPC’s overall revenue goals and donor engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Preferred: Advanced degree, CFRE or other specialized certification/designation is beneficial
  • Minimum Required: -At least 11 years of professional experience in the field in positions of increasing responsibility. At least 2-3 of those years must have been directing a team or multiple projects or a function.
  • Demonstrated success in individual giving and corporate/foundation giving/sponsorships, including significant experience with soliciting/closing large sponsorships/grants and related portfolio management required.
  • Documented success in the preparation of six and seven-figure grant and sponsorship proposals.
  • Experience working with executive leadership and volunteer boards/committees preferred.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, MSOffice, and Internet required.
  • Ability to work in a varying schedule including nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.

Our best estimate of the compensation range for this opportunity is $110K - $115DirectiorK annually, depending on the experience you bring. This range is based on Little Rock market rates.
