We are looking for applicants that are willing to help support our mission and vision while working with the people we support.
Quite simply put:
In this program, you will be working as a Direct Support Professional in the community with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will also be working 4 hours in a Community Habilitation capacity working with adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 3 years and older in Columbia County, NY, can choose our Community Habilitation service. Individuals can choose this service if they are eligible for OPWDD funded services and live with a caregiver or by themselves in the community.
We provide Community Habilitation in people's homes or in the Columbia County community. Together with individuals and their family or caregiver, we create a community habilitation plan to achieve individuals' personal goals.
The focus in this position:
Support the unique personal desires and needs of the individuals at the site. Provide assistance with decision making, problem solving and providing encouragement to be come as much as a self-advocate as possible.
- Support individuals with planning and carrying out meaningful community-based activities.
- Guide the individual in making choice not have the decisions made for them.
- Take a group to college for our Coarc Goes to College and assist in the course work.
- Engage in a variety of topics: current events, advocacy, rights, silly pop culture, healthy living, public safety and more.
- Go on a variety of outings: museums, classes, libraries, bowling, zoos, aquariums and more.
- Support individuals with volunteering in the Meals on Wheels program and the American Red Cross.
- Attends dances and theatre events.
- Exercise, create art, baking and cooking groups.
- Teach life skills like math, reading, spelling, computer and caring for animals.
- Assist with toileting if needed.
- Complete required documentation.
- Work on community socialization skills and integration.

The requirements of this position:
- High School Diploma or GED (now called TASC)-Preferred
- Exceptional written, communication, and computer skills
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to be certified in all required trainings.
- Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- One-year experience working with individuals with disabilities (Preferred)
