About the Job:

The Surface Superintendent will report to the Mine Manager and is responsible for direct oversight of surface operations, camp maintenance, and serves as a liaison to the camp manager. The schedule for this position is 4 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 3 days off.

Responsibilities:

• Manage Surface Operations and Camp Maintenance Departments.
• Create and maintain department budgets and forecasts.
• Interact with other departments for their needs and scheduling work especially Environmental, Water Treatment, Underground.
• Help prioritize projects and activities for both Surface Ops and Camp Maintenance.
• Manage third party site transportation contract, maintain contact with boat captains and bus drivers during inclement weather, review and distribute inclement weather schedules.
• Manage, rationalize, and optimize surface rental equipment and contracts.
• Perform and document quarterly inspections for stormwater ponds and tailings facility.
• Work with third party consultants for annual TTF inspection and other site engineering requirements.
• Budget and schedule contractors and equipment for waste hauls, crushing, landing crafts, surveying, pest control.
• Develop scope, budget, bid and manage small camp improvement projects.
• Maintain and distribute site water balance using Excel and Goldsim.
• Maintain and renew tailings and stormwater dam certificates to operate, follow certificate conditions, maintain contact with Alaska Dam Safety.
• Work on bringing the site into compliance with GISTM for the main tailings dam.
• Perform annual EAP (emergency action plan) refresher and drills for the TTF.
• Attend and participate in weekly and monthly planning and budget/forecast/cost meetings.
• Perform and record safety inspections and employee interactions.
• Inspect Camp and Surface Operations facilities for housekeeping, safety, environmental issues.
• Liaison with third party camp manager (ESS).

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others
• 10 years of experience in mine surface operations, project engineering, and/or project management.
• 5 years experience in a supervisory role
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to work in an office setting, in different environments including wet & freezing weather, underground
• Ability to work independently and to accept responsibility
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
• Ability to get along with diverse personalities; tactful; mature; flexible; positive attitude
• Good reasoning abilities; well organized; work well under pressure
• Good understanding of civil and geotechnical engineering principles
• Knowledge of water pumps and piping a plus
• Ability to work 4 days on/3 days off at Kensington site
• Set high standards for self and others, builds trust and take accountability
• Preference given to Alaskan residents
