A full-time, non-exempt, hourly employee. 911 Communicator’s shall be full-time or part-time who report directly to the Communications Chief. This position supports the function of the Cole County EMS, including monitoring and responding to emergency radio frequencies and public telephone calls. Ensure radio transmissions and calls for service are processed in a responsible, timely, and accurate manner on a continual basis. 

1. Education and Experience:
a. High school diploma or equivalent.
b. Associates degree preferred.
c. Prior Emergency Medical Dispatching experience and/or training and knowledge of Cole County street system and jurisdictional boundaries desired.

2. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
a. Valid Missouri Class “F” license driver's license.
b. Must be Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certified or be able to obtain EMD certification within 30 days of appointment.
c. Must maintain continuous AHA Basic Life Support (BLS).d. Must have the following National Incident Management System certifications: ICS100, ICS200, IS700, IS800 or obtain within six (6) months of hire.

3. Job Knowledge:
a. Comprehensive understanding of all components of the EMS system. As well as laws, regulations, and requirements related to EMS.
b. Knowledge of the principles and practices of emergency medical care and EMS system operations.
c. Organizational techniques.
d. Computer operations and data analysis.
e. Response area of CCEMS.
f. Thorough knowledge of all CCEMS policies and procedures.

h. Maintains an effective working relationship with representatives from outside agencies, fellow employees, subordinate personnel, and the public.
i. Maintain an effective working relationship with fellow employees, other health care professionals and the public.
j. Independently plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate assigned projects and make decisions and judgments relating to assigned projects and other responsibilities.
k. Generate reports based on computer data.

1. Operations:
a. Evaluation of in-coming emergency and non-emergency calls, compile relevant information from callers, and dispatch EMS units and personnel to the scene.
b. Gather information and prioritize calls.
c. Tracks availability and status of response personnel.
d. Manages units through system status management, as necessary, to ensure optimal coverage is maintained with the number of available units at any given time.
e. Relays information clearly and concisely to response personnel and callers.
f. Monitor multiple radio channels including mutual aid communications.
g. Maintain knowledge of emergency communication equipment operations, emergency communication procedures and techniques, and county geography.
h. Requires the ability to speak with clarity and calmness in emergency situations, the ability to recall detailed information, the ability to relay information to field personnel quickly and accurately.
i. Requires excellent oral communication and listening skills.
j. Completes routine housekeeping tasks.
k. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of EMS or designee. 

1. Physical activities required in the position include:
a. Regularly (over 70% of the time) sitting, talking and hearing (i.e. meetings, public speaking engagements, etc.).
b. Frequently (41% to 70% of the time) grasping, standing, walking, feeling attributes of objects, reaching with hands/arms, stooping and kneeling, climbing or balancing, and repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement

2. Position requires ability to lift and/or exert force as follows:
a. Regularly (over 70% of the time) lifts up to 5 pounds.
b. Frequently (41% to 70%) lifts up to 15 pounds.
c. Occasionally (15% to 40%) lifts up to 25 pounds.
d. Rarely (less than 15%) lifts 26-30 pounds.

3. Visual activities required in the position include:
a. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less.
b. Three-dimensional vision—ability to judge distance and space relationships.
c. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
d. Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus
.e. Ability to see up and down or to right or left while fixed on point.

4. The noise that is experienced in the position is a moderate noise level (i.e. office with computers and/or computer printers and clinical equipment).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires the employee to sit, talk and hear. Specific sitting abilities required by this job include sitting for long periods at a time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary : $41,500 - $56,000
