The Pre Sales Engineer is a technical leader within the sales team, specializing in Motorola Solutions’ safety and security portfolio. They bring deep expertise in video surveillance/door access or RF system design and play a key role in designing solutions that meet complex customer needs. Primarily working behind the scenes, the Pre Sales Engineer collaborates with technical members of the customer team to craft proposals and ensure solutions are technically sound and accurately documented. Occasionally, they may engage directly with customers to provide expert insights. Additionally, this role involves leading and managing the technical aspects of the sales process, supporting sales productivity, and collaborating closely with service teams to facilitate a smooth transition from design to project completion.

Responsibilities:

 

Sales Process & Proposal Support

  • Assist the sales team throughout the entire sales process, from designing solution-based presentations to gathering pricing information.
  • Develop and tailor sales proposals, respond to RFPs, and support other proposal-related activities to align with customer requirements.
  • Support deal closing efforts by providing technical insights, tailored pricing, and customized SOWs (Statements of Work).
  • Design and deliver custom presentations, demonstrations, and prototypes to showcase use cases and create value for prospective customers.

 

Technical Expertise & Solution Design

  • Assess customer requirements, identifying met and unmet needs to recommend optimal solutions that add value for both the customer and the company.
  • Coordinate closely with internal sales, sales support, and service teams to ensure solution designs align with customers' business objectives.
  • Ensure all sold products and solutions are functional, technically sound, and feasible within the defined scope and timeline.
  • Identify and address any functional gaps during scoping, collaborating with internal teams to find viable solutions.
  • Clearly articulate technical product capabilities in meetings and lead technical demonstrations.

 

Training & Development

  • Coach and develop team members to enhance their product knowledge, technical skills, and technical sales acumen.
  • Provide ongoing technical training across the sales team on current and emerging technologies to ensure up-to-date expertise.
  • Drive prospect trial periods, ensuring they are fully utilizing and understanding the platform's potential.

 

Customer Engagement & Field Insights

  • Conduct scoping calls to identify prospect pain points and propose creative solutions.
  • Facilitate Q&A sessions, address product-specific inquiries, and create customized demo environments to better address prospect needs.
  • Document and communicate product feedback and new requirements gathered from customers, fostering cross-team collaboration to drive improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum six years of sales or sales engineering experience in a business-to-business, large/strategic customer segment; or
  • A record of achievement and technical solution expertise in a comparable sales role.
  • Product certification, engineering credential, or equivalent technical credential.
  • IT/Networking and PC proficiency

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Some overnight travel as required
