Founded in 1974, Community Access celebrates its 50 th Anniversary as a pioneer of supportive housing and social services in NYC for people with mental health concerns. We proudly lead advocacy efforts that rally our community to promote human rights, social justice, and economic opportunities for all. We are built upon the simple truth that people are experts in their own lives. Our programs are spread across 25 locations and include over 1200 units of supportive housing in three boroughs, the Howie the Harp Advocacy Center, East Village Access—a PROS program, Peer driven Crisis Respite Center, Adult Home Initiative, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and the Intensive Mobile Team (IMT).
Department Overview
The Human Resources departme nt is a full-service team that is responsible for supporting Community Access’ vision, mission and values by delivering excellent customer service in meeting the staffing, compensation, benefits and employee relations needs of the organization. We cover all services which includes everything from Recruitment, Terminations and Payroll Services. The department works closely with all levels of staff to address and respond to their needs in a professional, trustworthy and timely manner.
Internship Outcome Intern
Community Access is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated HR Intern in our New York City Office to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Chief Program Officer and/or Director of Human Resources, this fantastic opportunity gives hands-on experience in a fast-paced and creative environment. The HR Intern will provide support across various HR functions, contributing to a positive and productive work environment. This non-paid on-the-job training assignment will assist you in obtaining skills relevant to working as a HR Associate or HR Coordinator within an HR department in a non-profit setting. The intern will learn skills or have the following experiences, necessary to:

- Understanding the agencies onboarding process, from Background check through New Hire Orientation
- Understanding HR compliance basics, including preparing for Audits, Employee Information Requests, etc.
- Understanding the role of a HR team, and the internal service provided to other departments.
- Participate in one HR project (Performance Management, Recruitment, Payroll, Employee Benefits) based on interest and skill.
- Attend HR Department meetings to understand full-scope services provided.

- Assist with and learn about the Talent Acquisition process, including posting job ads, and attending recruitment events, information sessions as needed
- Assist with and learn about the Employee Onboarding process.
- Assist HR Team with clerical duties related to processing payroll and leaves of absence.
- Assist with and learn about Employee Engagement activities,
- Provide administrative and clerical assistance, with various functions (Payroll, Leaves of Absences, etc.).
- Assist with special projects, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
