JOB SUMMARY
Position Title : WIC Nutritionist
Program : Health and Nutrition
Classification : Non-Exempt / Full Time
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES
- Conduct certification and re-certification interviews with WIC applicants within established time frames, in compliance with all program policies and regulations using the system of record
- Determine program eligibility through income verification, hematological testing, anthropometric measurements, dietary assessment and nutrition risk assignment
- Maintain proficiency in hematological procedures and pass proficiency test. Adhere strictly to standard precautions
- Develop and manage individualized care plans that address participants’ nutritional needs
- Address special needs of high-risk participants using a high-risk care plan
- Apply guided goal setting techniques to provide nutrition education / counseling based on identified nutritional risk
- Prescribe and tailor formula and food packages based on participants’ nutritional needs and issue EBT cards
- Maintain clinic bulletin board with current nutrition education / outreach materials at assigned clinic(s)
- Promote breastfeeding to all participants and maintain a breastfeeding-friendly environment in all clinics
- Maintain proficiency in breastfeeding promotion / support and pass annual tests
- Document all information in MIS and participant charts according to policy
- Assist with all monitoring reviews
- Manage inventory of nutrition education / breastfeeding materials in assigned county clinics; assist with maintaining inventory of other supplies as needed
- Maintain proficiency on state-issued laptop and printer
- Issue Farmers Market checks to eligible customers
- Act as resource person for WIC participants with special needs, making appropriate referrals for other services in the community
- Act as liaison between WIC and health professionals in the community
- Assist Nutrition Education Coordinator at staff in-services by periodically providing nutrition education topics or reports from professional conferences / meetings
- Utilize available resource materials, i.e. Nutrition Education journals, newsletters, research papers, self-study modules, workshops and trusted internet sites for staying abreast of N.E. and WIC topics
- Commit to and follow the mission of CAP and its core values
- Execute other work-related duties, including flexible clinic assignments, deemed necessary by the WIC or CAP supervisors
