Compass Technology Group is a woman and veteran owned small business focused on developing innovative electromagnetic measurement devices. We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Technician II to join our Production team.  We embrace a team-based problem-solving approach that results in a creative environment with a continuous exchange of new ideas and learning.

The Manufacturing Technician II performs at a Machinist B level meaning they have a solid understanding of a variety of machinist jobs and can recognize safety concerns quickly. This role works within the Production team to understand scope and timeline for projects. They cut and produce precision parts, create physical prototypes from CAD and/or shop drawings using shop tools and advanced equipment like the CNC, 3D printer and CAM machines. The Manufacturing Technician II pays close attention to detail and is safety conscience following proper protocol for handling various materials and operating equipment.  The ideal candidate should understand technology, production methods and materials, and be able to meet deadlines and work within budgets. They should be methodical with an eye for shape and dimensioning; have technical, practical, and scientific knowledge and ability; be interested in building great products. Their goal is to ensure effective production operations and optimize procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Install, maintain and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures 
  • Approach daily work with continuous improvement in mind, working to continuously develop and improve production department practices to reduce cycle time, improve machine availability and efficiency, and lower operating costs.
  • Set up and use of machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill press and milling machine to repair or fabricate parts as needed. 
  • Troubleshoot CNC issues, repair failures of production and facility equipment to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Complete assigned work orders 
  • Operate material handling equipment safely. 
  • Enter information in systems to document work order status and completion. 
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the CTG Quality Management System 
  • Fabricate and assemble prototypes in a low volume, high mix environment  
  • Set up and cleaning of machines at the beginning of shift to ensure proper working order 
  • Ensure that machines are producing quality products by managing periodic checks on output 
  • Perform, when necessary, all quality checks required to ensure equipment is operating within specifications and established compliance control limits. 
  • Read SOLIDWORKS drawings (highly desired) 
  • Knowledge of General Dimensioning and Tolerances

Fusion 360, HSM, Cura, Simplify 3D, Prusa Slicer  

PROJECT MANAGEMENT   

Manufacturing Technician is responsible for estimating the time needed to accomplish tasks and informing their supervisor when they are going to exceed the estimated hours. 

LAB ENVIRONMENT 

Maintain a safe, clean and orderly production lab environment. Follow all processes and procedures for lab cleanliness, chemical and inventory storage, safety and security, and operational readiness. 

SHOP/3D PRINTING ENVIRONMENTS 

Maintain a safe, clean and orderly production shop and 3D printing environment. Follow all processes and procedures for lab cleanliness, chemical and inventory storage, safety and security, and operational readiness.  

Qualifications 

  • HS Diploma or AA degree 
  • 2-5 years work experience in relevant field 
  • CAM Programming experience
  • 1-2 years 3 D printing 
  • Skilled working with hands
  • Attention to detail and timeline sensibility, safety awareness 
  • Comfortable working within a team 
  • 2-3 years mill or lathe machining  
  • Manufacturing focused rather than design focused 
  • Composite manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Machinist B experience is a plus
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder (government contractor requirements)

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment  

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs 
  • Work in a business office space that includes a lab and production environment. 
  • Adhere to all safety and regulatory protocols.
