TITLE: Fuels GIS/LiDAR Analyst
LOCATION: Forestry-Division of Fire
SALARY: $28.73 an hour including benefits
CLOSING DATE: Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 5:30 p.m.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) within the definition of the CSKT Drug Testing policy and is subject
to random alcohol and drug testing. The successful applicant if not already employed by the Tribes must
pass a pre-hire drug test and will be required to serve a six-month probationary period.
The GIS/LiDAR Analyst is a professional level position requiring an individual to work closely with resource
professionals to develop and facilitate GIS/LiDAR applications in support of Division of Fire-Fuels and Forestry
needs. The major duties and responsibilities of the FIS/LiDAR Analyst include, but are not limited, to the
following:
- Provide support to resource professionals to develop and implement GIS/LiDAR applications for specific
projects.
- Develop user interfaces to facilitate GIS/LiDAR use by a wide range of technical staff.
- Maintain rigorous quality assurance over the GIS/LiDAR database.
- Perform analysis of existing GIS databases for efficiency and quality, and upgrades databases when
required.
- Interact with other GIS/LiDAR contractors or users performing relevant work.
- Produce both report quality and presentation quality graphics in a timely fashion.
- Oversee, to the extent required, data digitization and data entry relating to resource management
projects.
- Develop and perform training as required.
- Assist with GPS field collection.
- Assist with field reconnaissance, unit layout, inventory and monitoring.
- Remain informed concerning ongoing advancements in the field of expertise.
- Supervise employees as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (AS REFLECTED ON THE TRIBAL EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION):
- Masters degree in geography, natural resources, computer science or closely related field is preferred,
OR Bachelor’s degree in geography, natural resources, computer sciences or closely related field and
two (2) years of relevant, increasingly responsible GIS experience. Experience with utilizing and
comprehending LiDAR data.
- Experience with WINDOWS operating system and the suite of ArcGIS software components,
extensions and spreadsheets. Experience with GIS database design and development, GPS
applications and sound cartographic knowledge. Also, a basic understanding of forestry and fire
concepts in terminology.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Montana Driver’s License. Driving duties conducted
with a valid State of Montana driver’s license require BIA/Northwest Regional Office “Safe Driver
Approval” and employee adherence to all responsibilities under the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Motor
Vehicle Policy.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Tribes’ Drug Free Workplace Program, therefore
incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
