Speech and Language Pathologist- 2024-25

POSITION TITLE:  Speech and Language Pathologist                 DEPARTMENT:  Special Education

REPORTS TO:  Director of Special Education

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Speech and Language Pathologist evaluates students determined to be delayed in the areas of speech and/or language.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  include the following.  Other duties may be assigned

• Function as a resource to classroom teachers
• Participate as a member of the IEP team
• Attend meetings and training sessions related to speech and language as deemed appropriate by the Director of Special Education
• Maintains confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families
• Maintains regular attendance
• Maintains confidentiality, unquestionable integrity
• Complies with State Law and Network policies and regulations
• Identifies student needs and develops strategies for individual education plans
• Plans and implements activities to assist students to benefit from their educational experiences
• Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified impairments
• Implements the requirements of the Individual Education Program (IEP)
• Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of impairments
• Maintains accurate files and paperwork for the individual students referred, screened and/or receiving therapy or other school-provided services

• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Education/Experience:  Master Degree in Speech and Language Correction or Communication Disorders.  A minimum of (2) years of teaching experience in related area of concentration is preferred but not required.

Certification:  Valid Teaching Certificate in Speech and Language Pathology B-12 from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or possess appropriate credentials to prove eligibility for Missouri certification.

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond            to questions from groups of mangers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Must be able to transport between school buildings and cities.  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all Confluence requirements and Board of Education policies.  Ability to utilize technology in establishing appropriate record keeping program for students, programs, and staff.
