Arkansas Connections Academy (ARCA) is a tuition-free, virtual public charter school serving students in grades K-12 statewide. ARCA is authorized by the Arkansas Charter Authorizing Panel and the State Board of Education, and is governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school contracts with Connections Education to provide its educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

This position is with Arkansas Connections Academy working from the office in Bentonville, Arkansas or from your home office within the state. The Dyslexia Specialist will virtually manage instructional programs for students identified with dyslexia or related disorder in collaboration with the reading/language arts teachers. Additional responsibilities may include EL services or alternate teaching assignments. Through use of the telephone, Internet and various curriculum tools, they will consult regularly with learning coaches and work with the students to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program. The Dyslexia Specialist will participate in all steps of the Dyslexia support process. They will work closely with other teachers and district professionals to ensure that the school’s Dyslexia program is successful and operating in compliance with state regulations and district guidelines. The Dyslexia Specialist will utilize technology to deliver virtual instruction.

The Dyslexia Specialist will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

• Manage and provide instructional guidance, virtual teaching and general strategies for a caseload of students;
• Develop, write and ensure the implementation of Dyslexia and/or 504 plans;
• Evaluate tests and assessments, complete progress report and conduct parent conferences;
• Communicate regularly with parents/learning coaches of students who have been identified with Dyslexia or related disorders, to insure that their goals are being met, and that their needs are addresses in a timely and appropriate fashion;
• Consult with teachers and coordinate the implementation of specially designed instruction as defined for the student identified with Dyslexia or related disorder;
• Provide direct services to students including services delivered through web-conferencing software, as needed;  
• Schedule, organize and conduct 504 meetings related meetings in a virtual environment, as needed;
• Participate in the school’s Student Support Team; help teachers and learning coaches develop and implement program modifications and strategies for all students;
• Assist, as needed, with the organization and proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the Dyslexia process;
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date data in the school’s Learning Management System and Dyslexia and 504 software;
• Assist with administering state testing and coordinate the special adaptations that are required based on the Dyslexia documentation; and
• Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

• Degree in Education
• A valid teacher certification in Arkansas
• Phonics First Training preferred (please upload certificate if available)
• Experience working with students with Dyslexia and/or Dyslexia intervention experience
• Experience in policy Arkansas Dyslexia Handbook policies and guidelines
• Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Highly organized and punctual
• Customer focused approach
• High degree of flexibility
• Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
• Team player track record
• Willingness to travel for marketing and state testing events (may require occasional overnight travel)
• Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families
• Ability to work remotely
