Cottonwood Financial is Hiring a Vice President of Finance and Accounting Near Irving, TX

Job Description

Reporting to our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will manage a team of 10 professionals responsible for all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, treasury, investor relations, payroll, insurance, benefits, financial planning & analysis, and mergers & acquisitions. This hands-on leadership position is a key member of our executive management team, serving as our finance and accounting subject matter expert. You will be both a strategic and tactical partner to other company leaders as we continue to grow our online (digital) and brick-and-mortar lending footprints with an innovative mix of FinTech products and services. As our Vice President of Accounting, you will have the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule, working remotely from your home office in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and on-site at our Administrative Office (HQ) in Irving (Las Colinas), TX.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting

  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place, compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws for financial and tax reporting
  • Continually improve policies and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency
  • Manage, monitor, and evolve the financial systems of the organization to support our overall strategic goals
  • Manage the relationship with our external auditors, including the ongoing development and monitoring of internal controls
  • Oversee the company’s tax and regulatory requirements, ensuring that all appropriate returns and documents are filed in a timely manner
  • Support our overall growth strategy with negotiating, financial modeling, due diligence, and post close acquisition finance/accounting
  • Other duties as assigned by our CEO

Budgets and Reporting

  • Manage and improve financial models, annual budgets/forecasts, and reporting processes
  • Provide accurate and timely financial recommendations, insights, and action plans to ensure we are effectively meeting the strategic operating plan and adhering to the long-term roadmap
  • Generate regular monthly, quarterly, annual, and other ad hoc financial and operations reporting packages for various firm constituents both internal and external
  • Lead discussions with senior management about our financial performance
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with our strategic plan
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor capital expenditure budgets
  • Safeguard all company capital, resources and assets and ensure they are deployed toward their highest and best use

Analytics

  • Own, develop, and continually improve a robust set of analytics, metrics, and reporting
  • Make recommendations (both strategic and tactical) resulting from the assessment of financial and non-financial data
  • Perform financial analysis, on both a repetitive and ad hoc basis
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and cost reductions by continuously analyzing our financial operations

Treasury, Banking, and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with periodic and annual reporting to banks and monitor all banking activities
  • Acquire an in-depth understand of and supervise our cash management activities (i.e., operating cash flow and banking obligations)
  • Build, manage, and improve our banking and financial relationships

Acquisitions

  • Lead and manage due diligence, financial modeling, and sensitivity analysis teams
  • Lead discussions with target company advisors
  • Lead discussions with company banks and financial advisors to properly evaluate, analyze and structure financing

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • 10 years of experience in finance/accounting
  • 5 years management experience
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office Suite and advanced user of Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Organized, focused and able to operate in a lean environment
  • Local (Dallas/Fort Worth area) candidates only – no relocation
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship and not require sponsorship in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field or MBA
  • FinTech (online/digital) lending experience
  • Retail or financial services industry experience

Compensation

  • Competitive six-figure annual salary
