POSITION: County Caseworker 1
UMWA Union Position
DEPARTMENT: Children and Youth Services
LOCATION: Fort Jackson Building
SALARY: $18.80/hour
HOURS: 40 Hours per Week
8:00 am to 4:30 pm
(Starting and Ending to be set by Management)
On-call duty on a rotating basis with other Caseworkers.
BENEFITS: Health, Vision & Dental – First of month following date of hire

To provide case management functions for assigned caseload. This is an entry level professional social service work position and all work is performed under the close supervision of a County Caseworker Supervisor.
:
1. Participates in formal and informal training programs which provide basic knowledge relative to the agency’s purpose and applicable laws, methods, procedures, rules and regulations governing the operation of the agency.
2. Performs entry level case management duties for approximately twenty (20-30) families, including foster children, protective services, supervision services and child abuse cases including regular home visits, and inspections/assessments.
3. Responsible for the preparation and provision of accurate and comprehensive testimony in court for assigned cases.
4. Prepares and maintains individual case notes, dictation and documentation on assigned cases in compliance with state requirements.
5. Utilizes computer and software programs and other office equipment as needed to carry out job duties.
6. Locates and coordinates services for individuals and makes referrals to the team in a timely manner.
7. Works in close cooperation with other professionals such as behavior therapists, speech and hearing therapists, physical therapist, registered and/or licensed practical nurses, psychologists, physicians, and others regarding the most appropriate and effective care and treatment.

3. Assist other workers in meeting the needs of the consumers
4. All other duties as assigned.
Receives regular instruction and ongoing supervision in regard to daily work duties from Supervisor.

1. Works indoors and outdoors in adequate work space, lighting, ventilation and temperatures.
2. Works with above average exposure to stress and noise, but subject to frequent disruptions.
3. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
4. Works outdoors in all weather conditions.
1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
2. Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching and driving as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
3. Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso as necessary to carry out duties of job.
4. Light work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of twenty pounds.
5. Must demonstrate emotional stability.
6. Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the position.
7. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
A.
A bachelor’s degree in social work; or a bachelor’s degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or other relates social sciences and 1 year of social service experience or a bachelor’s degree in another field which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in the social science field and 2 years of direct social service work experience. Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits.

3. Must possess knowledge of current social, economic, and health problems and resources and the recognition of their impact on the growth and development of people.
4. Must possess knowledge of individual and group development and behaviors and ways of working effectively with adults and children who have social, economic, emotional, or health problems.
5. Must possess knowledge of the basic principles and methods of program interpretation and community organizations.
6. Must possess the ability to work effectively with people and aid them to grow in the constructive use of their potential in adjusting to their specific disability.
7. Must possess the ability to understand and assess the needs and rights of others and to work with adults and children who are physically challenged, emotionally troubled, or economically disadvantaged.
8. Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
9. Must possess initiative and problem solving skills.
10. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of local, state, and federal agencies; health organizations and institutions; and the general public.
11. Must possess the ability to perform research and organize professional presentations.
12. Must possess the technical knowledge of operating personal computers and other office equipment.
13. Must possess good communication skills, both orally and in writing.
14. Must have ability to prepare required reports in a timely and accurate manner.
15. Must possess knowledge of federal, state and county laws, policies and procedures in regard to operating local government, county code and administrative policies and procedures.
16. Must possess ability to handle a high volume of work efficiently.
17. Must possess basic math skills and ability to accurately prepare required reports and mathematical record keeping.
18. Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to county information and files and records.
19. Must possess and maintain a current/valid Driver’s License.
