A TRAFFIC TECHNICIAN I is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions:- Provides semi-skilled assistance in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of traffic signals, highway lighting and related electronic and digital electronic systems.
- Provides semi-skilled assistance in the testing and inspection all traffic signal equipment.
- Maintains accurate work and supply records.
- Safely operates Los Angeles County automotive equipment.
Option I: Completion of 12 semester units or 18 quarter units in electronics technology at an accredited* community college** or trade school. **
Option II: Completion of electronics technician training** in a school operated by a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions. A valid California Class A License may be required.
License Information: Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant’s driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class IV – Arduous: This involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
VISION: Keen color perception.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Accredited institutions are those listed in the publication of regional, national, or international accrediting agencies which are accepted by the Department of Human Resources. Publications such as American Universities and Colleges and International Handbook of Universities are acceptable references. Also acceptable, if appropriate, are transcripts that have been evaluated and deemed to be equivalent to transcripts from United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credential Evaluation, Inc. (AICE).
**Applicants who expect to qualify under OPTION I or II MUST submit a copy of their transcripts and/or written verification of completion of training program with their application within five (5) business days from the day of filing. An official copy of transcripts will be required at the time of final appointment.

This examination will consist of two (2) parts:
Part I: A multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted 30% assessing:
- Achievement
- Professional Potential
- Responsibility
- Teamwork
- Following instructions
Part II: A job knowledge test weighted 70% assessing:
- Numerical Calculation
- Mechanical Insight
- Professional/Technical Knowledge of Basic Electrical Principles
APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON EACH WEIGHTED PART IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.

- This examination contains test components that may be used in the future for new examinations and your test responses may be transferred.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
The County of Los Angeles is a Fair Chance employer.
