Department/Location: Equipment Maintenance FT Knox Reports to: Equipment Manager/Equipment Superintendent/Lead Mechanic
Status: Temporary, Full-Time EEO-1: Laborers and Helpers
Normal Work Hours and Days: A normal work day consists of 8-12 hours possibly longer depending on workload. Normal work days are M-Sat. Hours and start time will vary depending on workload. Overtime based on workload

Summary:The Parts Expeditor / Mechanic’s Helper is responsible for the process of expediting purchased materials, components, and equipment ensuring the timely delivery to project site or work area. Assist Equipment superintendent and mechanics in performing basic maintenance/repairs, clean-up duties to maintain a safe and organized work area/shop, including general laborer duties for project site as needed.Essential Functions:
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in mining/heavy construction projects
  • Provide manual labor assistance on various tasks and assignments
  • Use hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Transport, pick up, and deliver parts, supplies and materials
  • Sorts parts, supplies and materials before loading or unloading
  • Load and unload parts, supplies and materials using appropriate tools.
  • Uses bracing, padding, or strapping to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported
  • Ensures work area/shop cleanliness and proper organization.
  • Processes, tracks, and delivers parts to and from job sites, parts stores, and/or shop.
  • Assist mechanics with repairs, and routine/basic maintenance on equipment.
  • Dispose of garbage according to set policies and procedures.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
Other Tasks:
  • Help identify hazardous conditions on the job site.
  • Report any damage immediately to supervisor.
  • Assist other projects staff as requested.
  • Other Duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and preferably able to perform other tasks satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:Minimum:
  • A valid driver license with a clean driving record
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three or more years’ experience as a laborer on remote construction
  • Familiarity with repair and maintenance of trucking and construction equipment, machinery and tools.
Preferred:
  • Experience safely using forklifts, lift trucks, and hand trucks highly preferred.
  • MSHA certification
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of and ability to use various construction equipment and tools.
  • Ability to communicate information in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member successfully
  • Ability to read and follow assembly and instruction manuals.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor.
  • Ability to meet equipment schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to wear protective clothing.
