At Crystal Dynamics, we are in search of a detail-oriented Technical Cinematic Designer to elevate our game's narrative delivery through masterful cinematic design work. In this position, you will focus on crafting cinematic & narrative sequences that ensure the viewer's experience remains engaging and cohesive, especially during non-interactive story moments. You will collaborate with a team of Engineers, Animators, and Designers to build and implement both cutscenes and narrative moments that enrich the storytelling and artistic presentation of our games.

As a Technical Cinematic Designer, you will:

  • Design and implement cutscenes for highly scripted narrative moments within the game.
  • Manage camera placements and sequences to enhance the game’s narrative and ensure an impactful, purposeful gameplay experience.
  • Develop camera transitions that complement both gameplay mechanics and cinematic sequences.
  • Work closely with the Presentation Lead and Game Director to create and land significant presentation moments using meticulous camera work and animation libraries.
  • Proactively anticipate and resolve issues related to camera transitions in and out of gameplay.
  • Utilize tools like Sequencer as the primary method for cutscene production & camera animation, ensuring high-quality cinematic flow.
  • Maintain standards of cinematic excellence, aligning cutscenes and camera work with the game's artistic vision and narrative needs.
  • Coordinate efforts across various departments to streamline cutscene production and camera integration, and address development challenges.
  • Deliver consistently high-quality work within set deadlines.

To be considered for this role, we require the following:

  • Previous experience as a Cinematic Designer with a focus on narrative content in video games.
  • Strong technical experience implementing narrative sequences using visual scripting tools and editors.
  • Demonstrated skill in creating engaging cutscenes and cinematic camera placement for a narrative-driven game experience.
  • Examples of work showcasing your cutscene production and camera work, specifically in scripted events within games.
  • Understanding of game development processes.
  • Proficiency in camera animation tools, with a strong preference for Sequencer.
  • Proficiency in implementing designs within commercial or proprietary game engines, preference for Unreal Engine.

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Contributed to successful development of 3rd person action-adventure games on PC/Console, particularly in cinematic design.
  • Extensive experience with Unreal Engine, Blueprints, and cinematic tools like Sequencer.
