What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Cinematic Designer position at Crystal Dynamics?
At Crystal Dynamics, we are in search of a detail-oriented Technical Cinematic Designer to elevate our game's narrative delivery through masterful cinematic design work. In this position, you will focus on crafting cinematic & narrative sequences that ensure the viewer's experience remains engaging and cohesive, especially during non-interactive story moments. You will collaborate with a team of Engineers, Animators, and Designers to build and implement both cutscenes and narrative moments that enrich the storytelling and artistic presentation of our games.
As a Technical Cinematic Designer, you will:
- Design and implement cutscenes for highly scripted narrative moments within the game.
- Manage camera placements and sequences to enhance the game’s narrative and ensure an impactful, purposeful gameplay experience.
- Develop camera transitions that complement both gameplay mechanics and cinematic sequences.
- Work closely with the Presentation Lead and Game Director to create and land significant presentation moments using meticulous camera work and animation libraries.
- Proactively anticipate and resolve issues related to camera transitions in and out of gameplay.
- Utilize tools like Sequencer as the primary method for cutscene production & camera animation, ensuring high-quality cinematic flow.
- Maintain standards of cinematic excellence, aligning cutscenes and camera work with the game's artistic vision and narrative needs.
- Coordinate efforts across various departments to streamline cutscene production and camera integration, and address development challenges.
- Deliver consistently high-quality work within set deadlines.
To be considered for this role, we require the following:
- Previous experience as a Cinematic Designer with a focus on narrative content in video games.
- Strong technical experience implementing narrative sequences using visual scripting tools and editors.
- Demonstrated skill in creating engaging cutscenes and cinematic camera placement for a narrative-driven game experience.
- Examples of work showcasing your cutscene production and camera work, specifically in scripted events within games.
- Understanding of game development processes.
- Proficiency in camera animation tools, with a strong preference for Sequencer.
- Proficiency in implementing designs within commercial or proprietary game engines, preference for Unreal Engine.
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- Contributed to successful development of 3rd person action-adventure games on PC/Console, particularly in cinematic design.
- Extensive experience with Unreal Engine, Blueprints, and cinematic tools like Sequencer.
