We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our team to help us in continuing to provide top expertise for our broad base of clients. As a Structural Engineer at CTLGroup you will not only be a leader and mentor; you will also be part of building a dynamic culture that fosters growth.
This individual will report to the VP, Consulting Services, and will be located in Mount Prospect, Illinois.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze Portland cement and related construction materials.
- Manage client focused projects.
- Select and perform appropriate routine or specialized laboratory procedures to prepare and run test specimens.
- Explain test results.
- Compile data for documentation of test procedures and prepare reports.
- Calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment, maintain logs and required documentation and report problems to Supervisor.
- Effectively perform and monitor specialized and routine tests in the lab or field.
- Demonstrate initiative by implementing alternative procedures, in coordination with the supervisor, to enhance efficiency.
- Independently investigate unusual test results and report conclusions to supervisor.
- Calibrate equipment, handle minor repairs and perform preventative maintenance per defined processes.
- Arrange equipment repairs with an outside service as needed with supervisor’s approval.
- Assist in training new hires and cross training of co-workers.
- Demonstrate awareness of employee safety by performing duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Work on projects, create reports and provide test results to clients within a specified timeframe.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry
- 5-10 years of relevant chemistry lab experience
- Familiarity with standard wet chemistry techniques
- Well versed in applying scientific methods and rules to solve problems.
- Basic familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction
- Familiar with Calorimetry testing, Infrared Spectroscopy and Standard lab equipment.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- In depth knowledge of X-ray Diffraction and Fluorescence of construction materials, cement chemistry and construction materials; industrial minerals
- Experience with the following: UV-Vis Spectroscopy, Auto titrator, Atomic Absorption, Thermal and Particle Size Analysis and Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectroscopy.
Physical and Travel Demands:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Exposure to prolonged standing and use of computer.
- Work is performed in a laboratory environment and the following conditions may apply exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, variations in temperature and humidity, fumes and various types of equipment.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever necessary.
- May require working occasional overtime.
