Metalsmith – Hamilton, Montana
- Custom Shop Inc, a very busy and well-known gun restoration/repair shop nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Montana, is looking for new talent. We are home to the Outdoor Channels "Gunfather Restorations" television series which is returning in the fall of 2022. Applicant must be very DETAIL ORIENTED, cautious, and willing to learn. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is proficient in common Metalsmith skills and shows extreme care about minute details and takes pride in their work. We specialize in removing impacts, abrasions, erosion and corrosion on various metal surfaces. You should be able to safely use various gunsmithing tools as well as demonstrate excellent skill using those tools while filing and polishing gun components without causing damage. Knowledge in gunsmithing and abrasive papers is preferred. Our Craftsmen are the best in the business. No tool requirement necessary. A positive attitude and a willingness to learn is mandatory.
Wage:
$16-22 per hour to start & DOE
Basic Knowledge of:
- Abrasive Papers (220-2500 Grit)
- Metal Working
- Parts Fabrication
- Machinist Skills
Gunsmith/Metalsmith Responsibilities:
- Assemble and Dissemble Firearms
- Metal Polishing
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate Firearms
- Remove Corrosion from Metal Gun Parts
- Repair Damaged Guns
- Add Custom or Aftermarket Parts, such as Swivels, Recoil Pads, Sights,
- Scopes, Grips and Stocks.
- Touch Up Engravings and Other Markings. (If Qualified)
- Fit Barrels
- Remove Dents, Dings, Scratches, & Pits from Metal Surfaces
- Correct Headspace of Guns & Cartridges
- Replace Barrels & Firing Mechanisms
- Modify Pull Weight & other Trigger Mechanisms
- Proficient in using Hand Tools, Power Tools & Machinist Tools
Gunsmith/Metalsmith Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited gunsmith training program preferred
- Sound knowledge of gun control laws and gun safety preferred
- Strong mechanical and metalworking skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills
- Must be proficient and safe in using Hand Tools, Power Tools & Machinist Tools
- Ability to focus and maintain production goals despite repetitive nature of work
- Maintain professional appearance and good personal hygiene
