DESIGN ENGINEER

SUMMARY 

· Design mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic systems for truck mounted equipment that meet the applicable standards and to perform the following duties. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

· Design and analyze mechanical structures and components, electrical and hydraulic systems. 

· Design based on applicable regulations and industry standards. 

· Document designs using 3D solid (SolidWorks) and 2D drafting software (AutoCAD). 

· Evaluate weight and balance issues for road worthiness and crane stability. 

· Develop sources for required hardware and systems. 

· Create sales support drawings. 

· Analyze product failures, develop repairs and redesign accordingly. 

· Assist Manufacturing Engineering with development of work orders. 

· Assist Production with floor-level decision making, development of work processes and tools. 

· Maintain revision control on drawings and other controlled documents by utilizing PDM and ECO processes. 

· Document and communicate modifications to purchased devices (e.g. cranes, aerial devices, etc.) with manufacturer. 

· Conduct and/or source the supervision of testing of components and/or complete vehicles when required. 

· Generate manuals for designed equipment as required. 

· Utilize the Engineering Change process and Product Data Management system to control documents. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Fluid Power Certification – Desired but not required. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Agricultural or Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology 

Or 5 years of applicable experience in an engineering capacity. 

EXPERIENCE 

Desired: 

Design software – 3D and 2D (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred). 

Microsoft Office – Proficient in Excel and Word. 

Experience with hydraulically powered mobile equipment, on or off-road vehicles, assembly and manufacturing processes.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read and interpret documents; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must also possess the ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of organization. 

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

Highly detail oriented and organized in work. Acceptable written and oral communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a customer service focus with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results. Must have initiative and the ability act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives. Must possess a strong desire to learn. Mechanical skills /experience with heavy trucks and heavy equipment is a plus.
