What are the responsibilities and job description for the Per Diem Coffee Shop Associate position at Dartmouth College?
Position Purpose
Under supervision, sets up and arranges serving areas for Dining cafes. Serves food and beverages from counters and prep areas to customers. Simple food preparation duties. Stores leftover food items and cleans kitchen utensils and equipment. Operates point-of-sale system and welcomes Dining guests.
Required Qualifications
- No previous experience required.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to follow safe food handling instructions.
- Must be able to capable of working in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Barista or coffee house experience preferred
- Food service experience preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic understanding of cleanliness procedures and general sanitation regulations.
- Ability to learn proper food protection and handling procedures.
- Ability to learn methods and procedures used in food service operations.

Service Station Set-Up, Maintenance and Cleaning
- Assists in preparing service stations for daily operations.
- Conveys food and supplies from the kitchen, bakery, and/or salad preparation area to the serving site either by carrying or by utilizing a cart.
- Stocks and arrange food, dishes, silverware, and other supplies when necessary.
- Serves food items to customers from counters and convection ovens in accordance with specific cooking/warming instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served.
- Prepares hot and cold beverages.
- Wraps, date-labels and properly stores food items.
- Cleans tables and seats in accordance with sanitary procedures.
- Maintains cleanliness of counter, and other equipment. Removes food items after meals and properly store items, cleans equipment, counters and work areas after shift.
- Learns and follows safety precautions and proper food protection and handling procedures
Cashiering Duties
- Operates Point-of-Sale system to record items purchased and takes method of payment with either student ID or credit card.
- Greets and thanks guests as they enter and leave the property.
