Davidson seeking a Weld Manufacturing Technical Analyst (Subject Matter Expert) - Huntsville, AL.
The qualified candidate as the Weld Manufacturing Technical Analyst - Subject Matter Expert (SME) will support the Space Launch System (SLS) program with responsibilities to provide and independent review of all process (planning, spec’s, training, etc.) required for the Manufacturing efforts in the production of the Core Stages (CS) and Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) weld centers.
Weld centers are defined as:

  • Vertical Assembly Center (VWC)
  • Vertical Assembly Center (VAC)
  • Girth Weld Tool (GWT)
  • Circumferential Dome Weld Tool (CDWT#1)
  • Segmented Ring Tool (SRT)
  • Circumferential Dome Weld Tool (CDWT#2)
  • Lox Tank Assembly Center (LTAC)

Candidate shall support the Job Readiness and the Job Excitability Assessment of the respective job and perform an Excitability Assessment of the Weld Centers to determine if they can perform at the standard set to build flight hardware at a continuous pace. Include updates on the in-progress and completed work tasks in the monthly Program Status Report [SDRL 002].
Candidate shall assist across disciplines with focus on efficiency, skills and timely production execution:

  • Analyze documents and drawings to verify that quality, design, and manufacturing requirements are met for optimization of product performance
  • Complete all analyses by the end of the period of performance and shall submit findings as part of the monthly Program Status Report [SDRL 002]
  • Assess risks to program milestones for Manufacturing, considering any historical performance and lessons learned.
  • Complete all assessments by the end of the period of performance and shall submit findings as part of the monthly Program Status Report [SDRL002]
  • Provide technical expert guidance for Fusion and Friction Stir Weld capabilities for qualification and flight hardware production/fabrication
  • Shall provide manufacturing and process improvement recommendations for major weld systems (and their control systems)
  • Provide technical expert guidance for Weld Engineering
  • Develop area readiness on skill, tools, work instructions, process, and an overall assessment/gap analysis of confidence for flight hardware fabrication
  • Submit findings as part of the monthly program Status report

Deliverables:

  • Create documents and presentations on the current state of their work in support of meetings or reviews as requested

**Travel will be involved to NASA facilities at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville,AL, the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, LA,**

  • Completion of all job or site specific training/certifications that are required to obtain site access or have been deemed a requirement for completion of specific tasks (e.g., operation of cranes, forklifts, Foreign Object Debris [FOD] prevention, etc.):
    • For those assignments that require a NASA badge, the following minimum training is required:
      • SHEA 102 MSFC Safety, Health, & Environmental Program Refresher Training,
      • MSFC Workplace Violence Prevention Training;
    • For visits to Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, LA (NOLA) or assignment at the facility the following minimum training is required:
      • FOD Training,
      • Safety Awareness training;
  • Compliance with NASA Drug Free Workplace (DFW), Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal regulations (including random Drug & Alcohol testing), and/or sensitive/safety-sensitive position standards;

Requirements:

  • The necessary experience/technical skills determined to perform this Engineering/Engineering related role shall include an ABET accredited Engineering Degree and prior experience with large robotic weld systems
  • Compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR); specifically FAR 9.104-1 General Standards (e) which is to “have the necessary organization, experience, accounting and operational controls, and technical skills, or the ability to obtain them (including, as appropriate, such elements as production control procedures, property control systems, quality assurance measures, and safety programs applicable to materials to be produced or services to be performed by the prospective contractor and subcontractors)”

Must hold an Active Secret Security Clearance
