Description

DEPARTMENT: PRODUCE Wage Range: $16.00 - $21.67 per hour

REPORTS TO: Produce Manager and Produce Assistant Manager

 

JOB SUMMARY: To effectively and efficiently comply with all aspects of the Produce Department including customer service, department conditions, profitability, productivity and workplace conditions. Handle prepping, stocking and packaging needs for the Produce Department. Understands and upholds Davis Food Co-op’s End Statements

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Department Operations and Customer Service

  • Understands and performs department procedures for receiving and stocking.
  • Notifies management of product outages, returns, and mispicks
  • Completes daily cleaning routines and deep cleaning projects on a weekly basis
  • Exceed our customer’s expectations for service and provide a welcoming environment for all people and all diverse backgrounds and in accordance with the Co-op’s customer service standards
  • Model, provide and ensure customers receive prompt, friendly and courteous services and in a professional manner that markets our cooperative advantage
  • Maintain a calm and friendly demeanor with all customers and all situations
  • Upholds and monitors compliance of best practices for food handling and safety
  • Reports customer suggestions, comments or complaints to the appropriate department or positions as necessary
  • Inspects equipment and tools to ensure proper working order and addresses as needed. Report any situations of concern to the Produce Management
  • Maintain clean, neat and orderly work places and department
  • Treat staff equally, fairly, consistently and with respect
  • Clean, cut and prepare produce for display in racks
  • Stock produce adhering to guidelines for merchandising and rotation
  • Follow department procedures for labeling, dating and packaging product for the produce cases
  • Maintain a working knowledge of produce varieties, usage and procedures for pricing, price changes and returned product
  • Maintain backstock of product and supplies, informing manager of product shortages and supply needs
  • Perform inventories and order product as requested by Produce Manager
  • Cull non-saleable product from both wet and dry racks
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins
  • Maintain accurate and attractive signage within department

 

Maintenance, Safety and Security

  • Must use safe practices when performing job duties
  • Wear proper clothing during shift, including apron and nametag, closed-toe shoes and shirt with sleeves
  • Ensures department and back-stock areas are maintained in clean, orderly condition, following all guidelines
  • Maintain off-stage areas clean such as employee kitchen, break room, offices and lockers by being responsible for personal items belongings
  • Maintain equipment in working order. Report broken or damaged equipment to management
  • Address safety/security concerns promptly
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Can safely utilize knives and demonstrate proper cutting skills for packaging product
  • Monitor department and nearby areas for shoplifting, follows established policy when handling problem customers or suspected shoplifters
  • Provides back-up to other staff as needed

 

Other

  • Knows and meets all “core responsibilities” as outlined by the Co-op including customer service standards, communication, mission integration, personal effectiveness and technical skills
  • Complete all required training as assigned by management
  • Performs other duties as assigned
