Daybreak is looking for a Therapist to assist in our mission of providing Miami Valley homeless and vulnerable youth with services that promote safety, stability, and well-being. This position will play a role in achieving our vision of a promising future for all youth.
About Us: Daybreak was established in 1975 in Dayton, Ohio as an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth. Today, Daybreak operates the Miami Valley's only 24-hour crisis hotline and emergency youth shelter and has grown to include outreach, prevention, transitional housing, life-skills education, and other follow-up services for runaway, throwaway, and homeless youth.
Description: Provides mental health assessments, treatment planning, individual/group psychotherapy, and psychotherapy for minors and young adults referred to all of Daybreak's programs- Shelter, InReach, Drop-In, Housing, and Employment.
Responsibilities:
- Assumes an advocacy and leadership role which exemplifies the belief in the potential of the client, where applicable.
- Ensures all duties set by agency's guidelines and programs policies and procedures are completed on time as assigned.
- Meets weekly and/or as assigned with supervisor.
- Notifies supervisor of potential or real emergencies, including criminal activities, elevated risk behavior, mental health emergencies, health emergencies or other activities that impact safety, security, and public relations, where applicable.
- Models' professional behavior and actively contribute in a positive manner and demonstrates constructive positive problem-solving strategies and openness to other's opinions.
- Refrains from engaging in dual-relationships or any other ethical boundary with clients to ensure and protect clients' rights and consults with supervisor when there might be a risk of these situations, where applicable.
- Refrains from engaging in negative or counterproductive behaviors and attitudes and strives to keep the well-being of co-workers and clients at the forefront.
- Demonstrates appreciation, understanding, and trust in the work of his/her colleagues.
- Attends trainings and agency meetings as scheduled. Completes all required training needed to comply with Daybreak policy. Maintains appropriate in-service training hours by attending conferences, workshops, and trainings that are relevant to the job description and assignment tasks.
- Adheres to and upholds the agency's mission, core values, and attendance policies and procedures, and maintain and contribute to positive customer relations- both internally and externally (clients, staff, vendors, and donors).
- Attends All-Staff meeting each year.
- Drives Daybreak vehicles, when necessary, where applicable.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and state licensure in Social Work (LSW) or Counseling (LPC), or Master's degree in Social Work or counseling and state licensure, or Clinical Social Work/Counseling with a LISW/LPCC required. Two years' experience post Masters' working with transitional youth population. Knowledgeable in the area of community support services work.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

It is the policy of Daybreak to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all license requirements and that all employees are fit for duty. Background Check
Daybreak is required by State of Ohio law to perform a criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting, of eligible applicants. In addition to the fingerprints, Daybreak requires the following additional background checks.

- Nurse Aide Registry
- SAM
- of Developmental Disabilities (DODD)
- Motor Vehicle Report
Pre-employment Testing
The following pre-employment tests will be conducted at Daybreak's expense. Tests include:
- A tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray (by a physician of Daybreak's choosing)
- A urine drug screening (by a testing facility of Daybreak's choosing)
Should the pre-employment reviews indicate that the prospective employee does not meet the employment requirements, Daybreak has the option of either not hiring the person or postponing employment until the condition prohibiting employment has been removed.
If the background or pre-employment checks contain information that the applicant has committed, been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to any criminal offense, unless the charge was a minor misdemeanor not involving violence or a sexual offense at least 5 years old, or if the applicant refuses to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check, the conditional offer of employment will be withdrawn immediately.
Pursuant to SB 38 (child-serving agency), if it is determined that the applicant has committed one of the disqualifying events listed on the attached Ohio Revised Code Disqualifier sheet may prevent employment at Daybreak.
