What are the responsibilities and job description for the Waste Water Plant Operator position at DBI SERVICES?
Under regular supervision, operates and maintains assigned water or wastewater treatment plant(s), ensuring the treatment of wastewater in a cost-effective and safe manner to produce an effluent which meets all federal, state and local standards and regulations. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Supervisor of Waste Water Treatment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Operates and maintains assigned water or wastewater plant(s); monitors systems and equipment for proper operation.
- Performs all work in accordance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards of quality and safety.
- Participates in in-service training for personnel.
- Prepares and/or reviews daily operational control tests and daily logs.
- Collects samples and performs routine tests of water/wastewater.
- Calculates daily waste; adjusts chemicals to maintain required levels.
- Troubleshoots system and equipment problems; maintains, repairs, cleans and/or calibrates equipment as needed. Regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves and other apparatus to meet operational standards.
- Picks up supplies as needed.
- Participates in the maintenance of positive customer relations.
- Performs general building and grounds maintenance work as necessary.
- Loads and unloads trucks as necessary.
- Works rotating shifts as assigned; responds to after-hours emergency calls as required.
- Performs general office work as required, including entering computer data, typing reports, answering the telephone, etc.
- Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including daily logs, vehicle maintenance records, flow charts, production reports, meter readings, monthly reports, laboratory reports, other records and reports, etc.
- Operates and supervises the operation of vehicles and various equipment, including a vehicle, pumps, motors, generators, various plant equipment, meters, two-way radio, computer, printer, analyzer, mechanic's tools, calculator, various hand and power tools, etc.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department supervisors and employees, co-workers, customers, City/County personnel, regulatory agencies, sales representatives, and the general public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
- Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of responsible experience in the water/wastewater system operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must possess Class C License in water or Class C C Wastewater Operator's license.
- Must possess valid state driver's license.
- Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Plant Operator "C".
- Has working knowledge of civil and environmental engineering theories and practices as applied to water and wastewater system operations and maintenance.
- Has working knowledge of applicable electrical, mechanical, plumbing and other technical functions involved in the maintenance and operation of water and wastewater systems.
- Must be physically able to operate a vehicle, equipment, various tools, etc. that typically involves some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds) and occasionally heavier weight (up to 50 pounds).
