- Job Grade: 7 ($24.17 - $29.52)
- Classification: Hourly (Non-exempt) Full Time
- Department: Engineering
- Schedule: M-F 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Location: Delaware, OH; Olentangy Campus
Summary of Responsibilities
- The Water Systems Inspector I is responsible for observing and inspecting the installation of new water lines, and other facilities to ensure conformance with Del-Co Water construction standards and applicable state law. Additionally, the Inspector I performs backflow surveys to ensure proper plumbing installation and well abandonment.
Essential Duties
- Inspect the construction of water facilities.
- Witness pressure testing of water lines.
- Flush water lines and pull samples for water quality testing.
- Maintain construction records and documents and attend construction meetings.
- Answer basic questions by contractors & developers regarding Del-Co Water construction standards and procedures.
- Check for proper operation of distribution valves and piping.
- Conduct basic backflow inspections on new and existing facilities and perform initial and follow-up surveys of residential and commercial properties.
- Perform initial and follow up surveys of properties with wells or other auxiliary water systems.
- Perform GPS field collection of water system asset locations and attributes.
- Work as a team member and cooperate with others on group projects.
- Review construction drawings.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the job duties successfully.
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Must have some experience in public works and/or water utilities infrastructure construction.
- Must have Ohio Water Distribution I License and Backflow Certification or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
- Experience in AutoCAD desirable. Computer proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office preferred.
- Experience in the use of Trimble GPS hardware & software is desirable.
- Must have excellent communication skills and be able to interact on a professional level with contractors, developers, and homeowners.
- Must be detailed orientated and well organized.
- Must be able to perform manual labor and work in adverse weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
