Role:
The Accountant I is responsible for performing, with oversight, the accounts payable duties. Additionally, this role supports internal controls through performance of reconciliations and provides backup support for other accounting functions as assigned.
Salary
The pay range for this position is $23.42 to $29.27. New hires typically brought into the organization at a rate between the range minimum and the range maximum, depending on the qualifications, internal equity and the budgeted amount for the role.
Requirements
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Perform the Accounts Payable process; including routing of invoices for approval, validation of approvals and documentation, coding of invoices, entering of invoices into payables system, and issuance of ACH/checks.
- Prepare the Form 945 Back-up withholding semi-weekly transfers.
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts in accordance with department standards. Provide follows up, research and resolve problems in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain current knowledge of Credit Union’s products and services to understand the cause and effects in the reconciliation process.
- Communicate invoice discrepancies to appropriate parties and track outstanding items.
- Seek opportunities to improve processes to ensure efficiencies with payment of invoices.
- Prepare month-end and year-end reports.
- Cross-train to support various areas of the department and assigned work or projects as needed.
- Identify and input new prepaid and fixed assets into the system. Maintain the system reports for such assets and reconcile these reports monthly to the appropriate general ledgers in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with all regulations and policies of the department and the credit union.

Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:
Two to five years of similar or related financial accounting experience.
Education:
(1) A minimum of a two-year college degree in Accounting or Finance, or (2) two years of comparable experience.
Interpersonal Skills:
This role involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
