Position Summary
Delaware County Community College (DCCC), located in Delaware County (Marple Campus), is looking for a talented and dynamic Student Success Specialist in our Act 101 Office to join our team of diverse higher education professionals who are committed to student success.
The Student Success Specialist position is a 12-month, part-time (25 hours per week) grant-funded position which requires occasional evening hours. The person in this position will work with Program Director to identify first-time enrolled students for the Act 101 and seven-week summer bridge program; support individualized student outreach to at risk Act 101 students; connect program students to relevant campus resources; provide academic coaching and support students on an ongoing basis; monitors and track progress of students; maintain communication with faculty and staff in support of students; and support students' retention and progression to graduation.
Essential Functions
- Participate in the selection of students; conduct workshops and collaborate with other college staff to offer workshops and other enrichment activities for Act 101 and summer bridge program students.
- Provide outreach, monitoring, and intervention to Act 101 students showing signs of academic stress. This includes meeting with students to assess underlying social, financial, socio emotional, and other issues and provide direct assistance or referral to other campus resources.
- Prepare an Individualized Student Academic Plan (ISAP) for each student.
- Send progress report requests to faculty for all courses in which Act 101 students are enrolled. Meet with students to disclose the results and discuss appropriate academic actions.
- Administration of various inventories (LASSI, Career Inventory and Keirsey Temperament Sorter).
- Assist with registration to advise/register Act 101 students; maintain educational advisement records of all students in the Act 101 Program.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records on student assessment and usage of services.
- Work with students to develop realistic academic goals that might contribute to academic and personal success in college; develop relationships with students that will motive students to achieve their educational goals.
- Facilitate individual and small group sessions on personal and academic skill strategies and provide assistance with navigating self-help resources (degree works, connect2success, academic plan).
- Perform active follow-up with students that have not scheduled for subsequent semesters and work with the Act 101 staff to contact program students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience & Education
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with nontraditional, at-risk, or disadvantaged students. Flexibility to work varied hours including evenings, and travel to branch campus locations. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education or related field required. Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education, or related field preferred.
