The Psychiatric Provider will perform duties and responsibilities with the scope of practice for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant under the Colorado Nurse Practice Act and will address the behavior health needs of patients by conducting psychiatric evaluation, prescribing and managing psychotropic medications. They will coordinate with other behavior health and primary medical providers and support care management within the Delta Health System. Will facilitate patient care management leading to efficient use of all health care provider clinic time and assure timeliness of clinic appointments. She/he practices independently according to established protocols and will provide consultation for patient in the Emergency Room and other hospital units in collaboration with physician to deliver quality healthcare.
- Works in conjunction with the medical staff and behavior health team to facilitate patient management through the healthcare system, thus exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosing and treatment of patients experiencing behavior health needs.
- Uses current evidence-based practice, research and clinical knowledge to improve patient outcomes by formulating behavior health treatment plan; Conducts mental health histories and assessments to manage acute and chronic mental health needs.
- Provide assessment and medication consultation for emergency, primary care and behavior health providers for patients with complex behavioral health, developmental, or substance disorders.
- Provide compassionate, caring, and skillful psychiatric care in outpatient and hospital settings. Assess, diagnose, and treat mental and physical aspects of psychological problems for patients seeking psychiatric and substance abuse help. Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results for patients with mental health and substance abuse diagnoses.
- Support patients in our outpatient clinics and at the hospital through provider consultations and patient sessions PRN.
- Work closely with primary care providers, administrators, behavioral health providers, peers, and other stakeholders to foster strong interdisciplinary collaboration built on professionalism, respect, and integrity.
- Develop effective referral processes and communication channels between psychiatric providers and primary care/ED/hospital inpatient teams.
- Collaborate with clinic leadership and the Inpatient and Outpatient Behavioral Health Program Managers to develop and implement strategies for integrating psychiatric services into primary care clinics. Identify opportunities for sustainable program expansion and improvement based on patient needs, market trends, and best practices.
- Role model exceptional communication, humility, guidance, and a collaborative attitude at all times for patients, partners, and our teams. With time and responsible growth, provide strategic direction and leadership for the Behavior Health Program to ensure their professional growth, development, retention, and service excellence.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, licensing requirements, privacy standards, and ethical guidelines related to psychiatric services in primary care/hospital settings.
- Performs orders and interprets of laboratory test, in consultation with staff as needed.
- Orders medication, treatments and therapies in accordance with the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.
- Requests consultation and initiates referrals to other healthcare providers.
- Provides information, education and support to patients and families regarding medications, and treatment plan, thus facilitating communication between patients/families and healthcare team.
- Attend required clinical meetings and conduct trainings based on needs for the behavior health program.
- Document in accordance with all regulatory requirements made by licensing and third party agencies.
- Completes other duties as may be assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities of this position.
- Masters of Science in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license issued by the Colorado State Board of Nursing or compact privileges under the multi-state Nurse Licensure Compact agreement.
- Must be licensed to have Prescriptive Authority.
- Three to five years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with demonstrated ability to provide the full scope of care for psychiatric patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting, with limited supervision.
- Current BLS certification required upon hire and maintained through RQI process.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced clinic environment.
