Position Summary
The CAS Associate position is responsible for performing the accounting services, payroll services (as needed), and assisting with monthly compilation engagements for our clients. This individual prepares and analyzes financial reports, prepares journal entries, and maintains and reconciles the general ledger accounts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
Work on assigned segments of CAS engagements, including, in some instances assuming substantial or full responsibility (under supervision) for small accounting engagements involving compiled financial statements
Regularly read and be familiar with pronouncements from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax laws and updates
Perform basic accounting procedures, e.g. accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, tax payments, and other miscellaneous requests.
Suggest ideas to improve client processes or controls to seniors, managers, and directors
Assist with engagement in the general ledger reconciling, bank reconciliations, investment reconciliations, payroll processing, coding, and adjusting journal entries
Assist in audit procedures such as general reconciliations, pulling support for audit requests, and other audit work as needed
Prepare and update workpapers that support balances in the accounting records
Engage in direct client contact, respond to client calls and correspondence in a timely manner, and build an effective working relationship with the client and client accounting personnel if deemed appropriate by the director or manager overseeing client work
Play a role in auditing and tax presentations and programs presented by the firm as well as contribute to material on the firm website
Effectively use industry or community networks and other organizations to seek work opportunities for the firm
Actively seek work in order to stay productive and monitor personal production in relation to annual budgets and goals
Prioritize professional development and commitment
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field preferred
Must be up to date on the AICPA and state CPA societies' rules, regulations, and Code of Ethics
Strong organization, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to work independently, with teams, and manage multiple projects and deadlines
Strong computer aptitude, which includes expertise with Microsoft Excel and Word as well as experience with accounting / bill pay software (QuickBooks Online, Bill, Divvy, etc.)
Analytical skills with attention to detail
