DeNova is an early-stage biotechnology company based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, developing socially and environmentally responsible food solutions through microbial fermentation. Our team is dedicated to advancing sustainable food production, and we are looking for aLab Managerto support our growing R&D efforts.

Role Overview:

DeNova is seeking ahighly organized and technically skilled Lab Managerto oversee daily laboratory operations and contribute to research activities. The main focus of this role is to ensure an efficient, safe, and well-managed lab environment, while also contributing to R&D projects through hands-on scientific work. The ideal candidate has strong laboratory management experience combined with technical expertise in microbiology, biotechnology, chemistry, or biological sciences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance.

• Manage lab and pilot plant inventory, procurement, equipment maintenance, and vendor relationships.

• Support R&D scientists with experimental setups, laboratory testing, and data collection.

• Participate in method development and troubleshooting for R&D related projects.

• Develop and deliver training for lab personnel on SOPs, best practices, and safety protocols.

• Act as a key liaison between R&D, quality, administration, and production teams.

• Monitor lab expenditures and assist in budgeting and procurement decisions.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or a related field (candidates with technical diplomas combined with significant experience in roles such as Laboratory Managers or similar positions, may also qualify).

• 3 years of experience in laboratory operations, research, or analytical sciences.

• 1 years experience in laboratory administration or management.

• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with experience managing lab workflows.

• Proficiency in laboratory techniques, including microbial culture handling, analytical chemistry methods (e.g., HPLC, spectrophotometry), or related R&D applications.

• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

• Experience with laboratory safety and regulatory compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 years experience in a laboratory management role.

• Experience in microbial, biochemical, or fermentation-based research environments.

• Hands-on experience with method development and optimization.

• Previous experience training and mentoring lab personnel.
