Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice, Division of Administration and Finance, seeks qualified candidates for the Budget Analyst. This position supports the budget office as well as customers by managing the agency's requisition process, generating and reconciling reports.

Responsibilities of a Budget Analyst include, but are not limited to:


  • Concise analysis of program and financial issues, and problem solving;
  • Technical support for automated data systems;
  • Coordination of specific projects and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of state fiscal automated systems, file layouts, and skills in manipulating large blocks of data.
  • Knowledge of program budget planning, formulation, evaluation and execution.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration as demonstrated through experience or education.
  • Knowledge of basic statistics or workload measurement.

Additional Considerations

  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and database management and application along with programming in visual basic and macro programming within MS Excel and MS Access.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate with a clear objective in mind.
