POSITION SUMMARY

Reports to: Vice President of Tourism & Global Development

As the Destination Program Manager, you will highlight Washington, DC as a top-tier travel destination by crafting and delivering exceptional, memorable experiences for clients, industry professionals and partners. This includes developing engaging and informative training sessions to equip travel trade audiences with the knowledge and tools to effectively promote the city.

You will play a key part in fostering client engagement through the coordination and execution of Familiarization (FAM) Tours, site inspections and destination training programs.


Your Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to):

  1. Manage the execution for all domestic and international Familiarization Tours (FAMs) and site inspections, to include FAM request priority and tasks assignment. This will be in conjunction with the lead tourism program manager and the individual sales manager on customized itineraries, presentation materials, outreach to customers/members and partners, fulfillment of promotion components and follow-up for all activities.
  2. Hosting clients for evening and weekend activities.
  3. Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, tourism partners, and hospitality stakeholders.
  4. Process requests related to tourism and sports events in collaboration with relevant managers and provide logistical and operational support for event planning and execution.
  5. Key on-the-ground contact for FAM Tours/Site Inspections and tourism/sports events.
  6. Execute live/forward facing trainings to clients, in collaboration with the Visitor Experience
  7. Manager, the Lead Destination Program Manager and Convention Sales and Services.
  8. Manage and track client ticket allocations across all organizational initiatives.
  9. Responsible for the management of the Travel Trade webpage on Washington.org (content, itineraries, etc.)
  10. Ability to travel on domestic or tradeshows when assigned.
  11. Ability to be proficient with DDC IT designated programs to include simpleview CRM, email distribution platforms and Cvent.
  12. Provide sales related support to departmental staff as needed.
  13. Execute all other duties as assigned by the department heads.

What You Bring: Knowledge, Competencies & Skills

  1. Demonstrated 3-5 years' experience working in/with international markets in sales and/or destination promotion roles.
  2. A college degree, preferred, or equivalent professional experience in the travel trade industry with preference in tourism promotion management and hospitality.
  3. Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software systems.
  4. Bilingual preferred; a professional proficiency in another languages written and oral.
  5. An interest in travel domestically and internationally (up to 40%) and work evenings and weekends as needed.
  6. Proven knowledge of international markets and their diversity.
  7. Great enthusiasm for promoting Washington, DC and its assets.
  8. Must be able to legally work in the United States of America.
