What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator/Purchasing Agent position at Dominion Custom Homes?
Summary of Responsibilities
The Estimator/Purchasing Agent’s primary responsibility is to provide timely, detailed and
accurate budgets, cost estimates, and change orders. As the Estimator, you will work
closely with the design team, architects, engineers, trade partners and vendors to ensure
accurate and detailed estimates. The Estimator plays a vital role in creating a backlog of
jobs, forecasting production needs, and contributing to strategic planning.
Essential Functions
- Review plans and specifications to determine initial budget and detailed estimates
for remodeling, home addition, and new home projects
- Conduct project site inspection with the design team
- Understand and interpret schematics and drawings
- Establish, evaluate and management of trade partner and vendor relations
- Assemble trade partner and vendor bid solicitation packages and follow up during
the bid process
- Obtain, review, and analyze trade partner and vendor quotes and proposals to
ensure they are accurate, competitive and fair
- Provide value engineering assessment, research, and recommend options for
alternative design solutions
- Price change orders accurately
- Maintain and update an estimating database
- Maintain excellent company image, demonstrate integrity, and maintain positive
customer, employee, and public relations
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in construction management or business-related
field, preferred
- 3 years’ experience in construction estimating
- Firm understanding of residential construction and sequencing
- Ability to read and understand construction documentation
- Highly detail orientated and strong mathematical skills.
- Ability to perform accurate quantity take-offs.
- Ability to manage and successfully estimating multiple projects at once.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Experience with estimating software and adaptable to technology/software
changes within the company
