The incumbent performs administrative, supervisory, and labor duties in providing custodial services for the Douglas County Justice Center. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
• Supervises and performs work assigned to the custodial team.
• Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
• Performs a variety of janitorial work, including general cleaning, maintenance, furniture arranging, trash removal and room setup.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies.
• Identifies and reports building repair/maintenance needs.
• Verifies proper operation, adjustment, and basic maintenance of mechanical custodial equipment and informs supervisor of any malfunctions.
• Orders, receives, stocks, and distributes supplies, materials, and equipment. Develops and maintains inventory control process.
• Develops or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures, determines work priorities, and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage.
• Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions; promotes teamwork.
• Provides instructions and guidance for all assigned tasks, coordinates work schedules, and approves timesheets.
• Mentor the development of the custodial staff to help expand their knowledge and understanding of proper building care and sanitation. Conducts and coordinates orientation, training, and ongoing education programs for staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Periodic supervision. Work is performed independently with direction and goals from Supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position supervises and directs the activities of assigned staff; makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination, or advancement of employees. Schedules employees, assigns work, and monitors progress; guides, trains, and develops employees in the accomplishment of their duties and professional growth; evaluates performance.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Acts independently in most cases. Independent judgment is based on prior knowledge and experience to reach decisions within given guidelines. Must be able to discern when a situation requires higher level approval and direction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Must have one year (2 years is preferred) of supervisory or lead experience. Must have a minimum of four years of commercial custodial services experience. A combination of experience and education may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of custodial maintenance.
• Knowledge of custodial maintenance safety procedures.
• Knowledge of chemicals used in cleaning and use of corresponding Material Safety Data Sheets.
Skills:
• The ability to use one’s knowledge effectively and readily in execution or in performance of duties.
• Skill in planning, scheduling, or performing preventive maintenance and repair of equipment.
Abilities:
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
• Ability to work effectively with other employees and the public.
• Ability to properly schedule employee leaves and plan staff coverage.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
• This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain. A valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
