Under the supervision of the RN, the Monitor Tech monitors cardiac rhythm and assists nursing staff in correct use of telemetry and electrode placement. Also performs and coordinates clerical duties to assist the ICU Team in providing safe and compassionate care.

Minimum Qualifications: Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive/email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information tools. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous health care related preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: American Heart Association BLS required; May have up to 30 days from date of hire or promotion to earn BLS. For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

- Provides patient care under the direction of the registered nurse (RN), which may include but is not limited to: monitoring cardiac rhythms, assuring cardiac rhythms are recorded and uploaded to patient record, managing telemetry equipment and assisting staff in assigning and placement of telemetry unit in timely manner, communicating patient alarms to the appropriate care provider, answering patient call lights and phone, facilitating communication between the nurses and providers, and assuring medication safety by transportation of medications from the pneumatic tube and/or desk area to the RN or the medication room, transcribing, and entering non-medication orders into the electronic health record.
- Protects patients and team members by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Documents patient care services timely and accurately.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Ensures operation of equipment by verifying preventive maintenance requirements are completed, call in repairs, and evaluate new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
