The DSCC’s Communications Director develops and oversees the execution of the DSCC’s communications strategies. This is a senior level position that works closely with the organization’s leadership and Democratic campaigns to achieve the DSCC’s communications objectives. This role reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with the Director of Campaigns and Paid Media Strategy.
Responsibilities
- Hire and manage the Department’s staff and DSCC funded communications staff working in states.
- Advise and assist Democratic Senate campaigns on their communications strategies, including serving as the primary point of contact and resource for campaign communications staff.
- Oversee the DSCC’s media relations work, including placing stories, shaping earned media narratives, responding to inquiries and serving as on-the-record spokesperson as appropriate.
- Oversee the creation of all necessary communications materials and approving the DSCC’s public facing content.
- Work across Departments to provide communications resources, guidance and on overall planning.
- Provide strategic communications recommendations to the DSCC’s Executive Director, Chair and other members of the Committee’s leadership.
- Create long and short term proactive strategic communications plans.
