POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Underground Foreman is responsible for managing and directing the activities of a specialized underground crew within the Traffic Signals division. This role focuses on underground utilities, pipe laying, excavation, and overseeing concrete work related to traffic signal infrastructure.
YOUR ROLE
- Oversee a specialized underground crew responsible for excavation, pipe laying, utility installation, and concrete work specific to the Traffic Signals division.
- Review the approved 2-week schedule with Superintendents and receive assigned tasks.
- Read and thoroughly understand project plans and specifications related to underground work for traffic signals.
- Inspect work areas before, during, and after tasks to ensure quality, safety, and adherence to project specifications.
- Communicate material, equipment, and staffing needs to the Superintendent to prevent delays in underground and concrete work.
- Transport employees, tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for daily operations.
- Complete and submit required documentation, including production sheets, timesheets, equipment inspection reports, and shipping tickets using digital tools such as tablets.
- Understand and apply pay items and phase codes specific to underground utility and concrete projects.
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, and evaluating crew members.
- Attend weekly Foremen meetings and communicate updates relevant to underground and traffic signal-related work to the crew.
- Inspect assigned equipment with operators, report maintenance needs to the Equipment Manager, and ensure proper use and cleanliness of underground utility-related equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and compliance with company vehicle policies for assigned company vehicles.
- Ensure crew safety by enforcing all safety policies, standards, and procedures related to underground excavation, utility installation, and concrete work.
- Conduct weekly "Toolbox" safety discussions, specifically addressing hazards associated with underground construction and traffic signal infrastructure.
- Ensure all personnel wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) on the jobsite at all times.
- Approve time-off requests and submit accident or incident reports for the crew.
- Report disciplinary issues, status changes, and personnel matters to the Superintendent, HR, and management as necessary.
- Track and submit time worked using tablet-based applications.
- Foster a positive work environment by maintaining professional relationships with inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and team members.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Foreman frequently performs physically demanding tasks, including standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, bending, squatting, and crawling in confined spaces. Lifting, moving, or pushing up to 75 pounds is occasionally required. Specific vision abilities include close vision and color vision. This role involves navigating uneven terrain, climbing stairs, and working in outdoor environments exposed to extreme temperatures, loud noise, and active construction zones. Driving company vehicles is also required.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out of town stay may be required.
PRE-SCREEN
