Responsibilities

  • Food Safety Compliance: Monitor and ensure adherence to all local, national, and international food safety regulations, including FDA, USDA, HACCP, and other relevant guidelines. Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control procedures to guarantee that all products meet the required standards. Develop and enforce strict protocols for product testing, sampling, and inspection to maintain consistent quality levels.
  • HACCP Implementation: Lead the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) program, including its development, implementation, and continuous improvement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify critical control points and preventive measures.
  • Training and Education: Conduct regular training sessions for employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about food safety protocols and quality standards. Ensure all team members are well-informed and trained in food safety best practices.
  • Incident Management: Handle food safety incidents, recalls, and customer complaints promptly and effectively. Investigate root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Supplier Management: Work closely with suppliers and vendors to assess their adherence to food safety and quality standards. Collaborate on improvement plans and monitor their compliance regularly.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all food safety and quality-related activities, including inspections, audits, and corrective actions. Prepare regular reports for management review and regulatory compliance.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate production processes, equipment, and systems to identify areas for optimization and efficiency enhancement while maintaining high food safety standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments, including production, procurement, and R&D, to ensure food safety and quality considerations are integrated into all aspects of the organization.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on the latest developments and trends in food safety, regulations, and quality management to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of best practices.
  • Serve as back-up to QA leadership as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience (typically 5 years) in food safety and quality assurance, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role within the food industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, HACCP principles, and quality management systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively train and engage employees at all levels.
  • Certified PCQI, HACCP or similar relevant certifications are desirable.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities effectively.
