Summary

The Director is responsible for the overall management of the Center and for achieving the Center's goals in an ethically, legally, fiscally, and socially responsible manner. The Director reports to, and is employed at the discretion of, the Center's Board of Directors. Specific areas of responsibility are described below; the Director is responsible for these outcomes -- either directly, through delegation, or in partnership with staff and/or the Board as appropriate.

Responsibilities

A. Leadership and Administration:

1. Fosters collaborative, respectful, inclusive relationships with staff, families, and Board members. Provides communication, problem-solving, and team-building mechanisms to achieve organizational goals.

2. Provides mentorship, training and career development to staff, either directly or through professional networks, and identifies and pursues individual professional development and growth opportunities.

3. Ensures that the Center meets and operates within the requirements of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, funding streams, and reporting requirements. Stays abreast of new requirements and emerging issues.

4. Oversees the day-to-day operation of the Center, including payroll, benefits, insurances, personnel and administrative policies, purchasing, record-keeping, billing, technical systems, etc.

5. Identifies and communicates goals and vision for the Center. Brings information about state-of-the-art practices, environmental trends, emerging issues, and market changes to staff and Board, and advocates for needed changes

6. Models respect, trust, openness, and positive attitude for staff, families and Board. Operates The Center as a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable environment. Demonstrates openness to feedback and constructive exchange of different points of view.

7. Strong understanding of child development; experience in a classroom setting and knowledge of various curriculum and instructional methods for young children

8. Brings joy, energy, and a sense of humor to work.

B. Program:

1. In partnership with staff, ensures that programs, curriculum, and staffing patterns are developed and implemented to achieve the Center's mission and long-term goals.

2. As necessary, to ensure proper ratios and break coverage, directly teach in the various classrooms, plus Director-level time spent in classrooms to build relationships with staff and students.

3. Hires and, when necessary, terminates staff. Ensures that each staff member receives adequate orientation, supervision, in-service training, goal-setting, growth and professional development opportunities, and an annual evaluation.

4. Works with parents, teachers, and community professionals to develop programming to meet the needs of individual children, including special needs children.

5. Develops and implements procedures to regularly evaluate program outcomes, and shares this information with staff and Board.

6. In partnership with staff, ensures that supplies and equipment are maintained to support program goals and classroom needs, within budget parameters.

C. Financial Management and Fundraising:

1. Operates the Center within the financial limits and policies prescribed by the Board.

2. Provides financial information and reports for the Board at regular intervals and upon request.

3. In partnership with the Board, identifies short- and long-term financial goals and needs. Prepares budget options and presents recommendations to the Board. Balances competing priorities to maintain affordable tuition, retain staff through competitive wages, and invest in Center infrastructure.

4. In collaboration with the Board Treasurer, prepares and submits financial documents, including federal and state taxes, grant reports, and other requested submissions in a timely manner.

5. In partnership with the Board, develops annual fundraising goals and strategies to achieve them. This includes grant applications, planning fundraising activities, ensuring that fundraising activities are completed in a timely manner, and reporting progress to the Board.

D. Board:

1. In partnership with the Board, continually develops and implements long-term mission, vision, strategic plan and goals for the Center. Keeps program on track with long-term goals; provide continuous updates and information as requested.

2. Keeps the Board informed regularly of the status of the Center and emerging issues and needs. Makes recommendations, and advocates for programmatic and financial needs.

3. Responds to requests in a timely manner and provides reports, information, and analyses as needed. Maintains open, two-way dialogue. Actively supports Board members in challenging the Director's perceptions, assumptions, and positions.

4. Works with Board committees to achieve Board goals and coordinate efforts.

E. Building Management:

1. Ensures that the facility meets all applicable town, state, and federal requirements for building, grounds, road, septic and water systems. Acts as liaison to state and local regulatory bodies and third-parties regarding facility requirements and compliance.

2. Ensures adequate building maintenance and repairs, trash removal, plowing, cleaning and sanitation, and building upkeep, within budget parameters.

3. Identifies capital improvements needed and makes recommendations to the Treasurer and/or Board's Finance Committee.

Qualifications

Meets New Hampshire state qualifications for Early Childhood Center Director. Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education preferred. Alternative avenues of education, which meet minimum standards as required by NH Licensing Regulations, will also be considered.

This includes:

a. Three credits in supervision and management

b. Experience in the ECE field that meets the requirements of licensing; 3 years direct professional experience in an early childhood setting preferred

c. Minimum of two years experience in a supervisory or management position or three course credits in management or supervision.

d. Must clear full background check

e. CPR/First Aid qualified
