Job Summary


The Cardiac Catheterization Radiology Technologist delivers patient care in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, under the direction and supervision of the Manager of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. This person functions as a cardiovascular radiological technologist and patient caregiver for adult and geriatric patients. This position helps promote quality care for patients undergoing invasive diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular, peripheral procedures, and pain procedures. This person preferably has experience recording and analyzing all types of hemodynamic waveform tracings, preparing the lab for procedures, ensuring that quality control of equipment and procedures are maintained, and reports functional deficiencies in a timely manner.  


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use critical thinking skills, professional judgment, and leadership to plan, direct and evaluate the care of the patients. 
  • Operates all radiographic equipment in the cardiac cath lab, such as image digital acquisition equipment. Identifies and solves problems with the above equipment and knows resources used in solving problems. 
  • Assists Cardiologists in the performance of invasive procedures such as scrubbing, equipment utilization, and hemodynamic computation. 
  • Foster the professional development of unit staff through support of the orientation process and other educational activities. 
  • Participates in maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment as assigned by supervisor through in-house requisitions or purchase order requests using cost-effective measures. 
  • Functions as a Radiology safety person for the cardiac Cath lab. Reinforces radiation safety to all Cath Lab personnel concerning proper distance and shielding. 
  • Provides  service for both scheduled and emergency procedures. 
  • Maintain own personal professional growth and development. 

Requirements

 Education and Experience:  

  • Graduation from accredit school of Radiology 
  • Current RT License in State of Ohio 
  • Current ARRT Registry preferred 
  • Basic Cardiac Life support (BCLS) required 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required 
  • 1 years of Interventional (IR) or procedural experience (Cath Lab, OR, IR), preferred 
  • New Grads welcome to apply 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Possess the ability to lift, turn, support, move, position and transport radiologic equipment and patients of all weights and ages. 
  • Must be able to see, hear, speak and fully communicate orally and/or written with patients, physicians, and other staff either in person or over the telephone. 
  • Must be able to work effectively with others demonstrating tact, discretion, and diplomacy in all situations. 
  • Must follow directions and perform assigned activities. 
  • Must be capable of working varied schedules. 
  • Must be able to work around blood and body fluids, potentially infectious organisms and a strong magnetic field. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

  • Ability to work staggered 8-10 hour shifts and be on call (when needed). 
  • Capability to work effectively under stressful and challenging situations. 
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids may occur. 
  • Exposure to radiation as part of the job. 
  • Proficiency in assisting patients during transfers. 
  • Capable of performing lifting, pulling, and pushing activities related to patient positioning, transfer, and stocking of supplies. 

Physical Strength and Lifting Requirements: 

  • Able to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted. 
  • For patient lifts exceeding 35 pounds, or when a patient cannot assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, ideally with at least one other associate when available. 
  • Individual patient lifting and movement scenarios will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. 

Procedural Support: Provides competent, proficient, technical support during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures, implementing procedural standards and protocols. Patient Centered Care: Provides patient care specific to procedural requirements and patient needs (under the supervision of physicians and Cath Lab nursing personnel) within established departmental policies for scope of practice. Patient/Family Member Education: Provides support and education to patients, families, and other healthcare team members. Safety: Maintains a safe, organized and efficient work environment. Customer Service: Demonstrates the ability to interact and cooperate with all customers. Professional Growth and Accountability: Maintains professional growth, self-development objectives, and skill enhancement. Demonstrates a commitment to the organization by supporting and adapting to changes consistent with operating goals.
